My partner and I have bought 4.3acres and intend going off grid completely I had intended to register for your course this year but circumstances prevented me from doing so. Videos like this only make me more determined than ever to do it and grow as much as our own food as possible. Thank you Murray for your inspiration.

How do you prevent the media in the net pots from falling out for an outdoor application where wind can be a problem?
@jamesbailey77857 жыл бұрын
Adding up costs, 5$ per pocket sleeve X10 =$50 + shipping. 10' sch40 PVC $16. A bit of glue, and time. So roughly $75 a completed tower. Pluses- The grow method is comparable to DWC but less cost per sq'. Bright Agrotech towers run bout $62 plus shipping and you need the media fillerbase. So bout the same in cost per tower. Pluses- You able to harvest more times from the original planting in Agrotech tower. The added filtration by the media filler. Adding worms are an extra cost though. Need to experiment on placement and lighting to see which will give you more yield per area. Thoughts? Tom
@MurrayPonics7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, Towers that have/require media are not that successful in Aquaponics. The medium becomes a filter and clogs and is also much more labour intensive to plant, harvest and replant. More plants per tower using GroPockets, therefore, more yield.
@jamesbailey77857 жыл бұрын
Thanks 4 the reply young man. Have I heard a somewhere about a required filtration needed per gallon of water so I was thinking the media/ medium helped that to make a bit more compact system. I have been building a system and have 4 Agrotech towers sitting in Garage. I will order some grow pockets and build a tower as a demonstration unit. I am getting ready to start the plumbing/drains and plan to incorporate your air lift ideas. Best; Tom

Thanks for the video tutorial butt, it's really good stuff. Love the Chinese music in the background too, very tranquil. Also, can you use epoxy glue like araldite or something if pvc cement isn't easily available? Definitely use zipties, they can be reused by pressing the little tab / prong thing in to release them, but sticky tape can't be. Reuse for sustainability, especially when it comes to plastics ; )

Can we put seed in the net pot and keep it in your tower or only seedlings?
@1FishinAddict7 ай бұрын
doesn't look like this system took off running. Now its just the simple cups that goes into the hole with very little adhesive on the outside to prevent leaks. Best of all, the cups are $2 for 5 !
@othridgerunner3797 жыл бұрын
If you try this and you up with leaks it would be easier to use aquarium silicone as long as pockets are secure than take it apart.

Here is an interesting thought.. There is this nft thing called Floot..it's a one piece mold injection thing that is set up for horizontal... use.. if you notice..its only about 3.25" thick..what youe want to take notice of is.. it's only 3.25" thick.. the point here is.. even when you go vertical..YOU DONT NEED THIS BIG FAT 4" diameter TUBE...you could do this easily with a 3" tube..probably even a 2.5" inch tube.. JUST SAYING. Love the concept of the vertical hydro, however.
@MurrayPonics5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use smaller dia pipe but it works best with 4" pipe. We grow big plants as you can see in our videos. If you grow little lettuce the smaller pipes are OK.

The system should be protected from wind in a greenhouse or some other kind of shelter. Protected cropping is the way of the future. If there is enough wind to blow the lettuce out of the tower than there is a host of problems facing the system.

Uncle Murray, am I correct that for a bigger plant like strawberry 8" spacing is more appropriate?
@MurrayPonics7 жыл бұрын
Build according to the plan. If you desire only use every second pocket. Later you may change the crop you grow so standard build is recommended.
