Why do you have to stern anchor in certain places?

Great question! There are a few reasons. The one we've encountered the most (so far) is anchorages that have predominant swell. So, you set your anchors from the bow and the stern so that you are pointed into the swell no matter where the current is coming from. Another reason might be because an anchorage is kind of tight and there is not a lot of room to swing 360 degrees.
