I've been in aviation for 30 years. Weight and balance is huge in my industry as well. Everything you just did, we call "math in public", and you sir, are a brave soul! Nicely done! My dad was a truck driver for 30 years and he was an amazing mathematician. I feel like you've mastered it as well. Your math looked good to me! Ha!!

When I drove here is how it worked in Oregon, at 500 over you would get pulled in so they could go through your dirty laundry, at 1000 over you would get a ticket. In California 1 pound over and you were a criminal to be hung at sunrise.

We need a follow up video now to see if you were stopped at the next weigh station. And if you were, what did you weigh? Great Video!

Also with a width of 275mm, that is roughly 10.8 inches, so you were good either way on your steers, except for the state that had 550lbs/inch, Not taking into account being over gross, but I would chalk that up to a rounding error if the weigh station questioned it. LOL

Honestly if i cant fuel my truck because they put to much on my truck and it puts me over weight i just take it back and tell them to take some weight off im not going to sit there and fight trying to get just the right amount of fuel to not go over in fuel weight also if i remember right the apu weight exception is for your drives axels and gross weight your steers and tandems still have to be under weight limits

First off young man, you're not Stupid. It was SMART not to fuel up before scaling the load. Full tanks of fuel would put you well over 80,000 gross the APU exemption wouldn't work. With the APU exemption, you set your drive axles to be overweight, not move all that weight to the steering axle, that's suicide. Your trailer tandem doesn't slide ? That's 2 maybe 3 holes in to shift the 200 lbs. off the tractor drives, which moves to the trailer tandem, that now gives you room for a little fuel. If the APU exemption is going to play into this, I want the overweight on my drive axles, with the fuel 75 gallons x 7 lbs. = 525 lbs. Enough fuel to "burn off" to get to the scales, and fuel again after that. I'll roll with 12,000 on the steers, Overweight, on the drives, legal on the trailer, and the gross under 80,000. Don't make if more complicated then necessary! The 5th wheel is a last resort to move. It ALWAYS splits the drive axles, with a 1 or 2 notch move forward if needed. I want under 12,000 on my steers, I never make a practice to roll overweight. It's a CONTROL thing for me. Keep Safe !
@jessebaremore
@jessebaremore Жыл бұрын
I like your style. I have fixed tandems on the trailer. No adjustment. I didn’t clarify, but if I was leaning on the APU exemption, I would move the fifth wheel back and keep the weight on the drives.
@ljreed8671
@ljreed8671 Жыл бұрын
@@jessebaremore Okay I understand so that does make for a challenge. I feel it's always best to scale before fueling. Load placement on the trailer ? That fixed tandem creates a problem, reduction in the freight would be the only solution to be within 80,000. Scales are more likely to give you a break if your over axle then over gross, that's the "iffy" Good Luck Safe Travels.

Or you could have slid your trailer axles to help even out the load. Whereas then you could of gotten more fuel on and not sweated the scale or running out of fuel
