Learn how to build a reflection pond with inground photo blind for your backyard nature photography. In this video we will give you a tour of our very favorite new blind. We use it for photographing birds, squirrels, racoons and so much more. It is a great way to create some very unique and exciting images complete with a reflection of your subject!

Those are AWESOME shots, guys! Sometimes in life you just have to "Take The Bull By The Horns" and make it happen. You two did a fine job of achieving just that - love it! 🥰

I love it. For mine I used a folding table and then set 4x8 sheet of plywood with 1"x4" s for the sides cut on a diagonal on top of the table. I lined it with black visqueen, sand and gravel. Love your work.

What a great setup, first time I’ve seen something like that. How do you keep the blind dry? Did you seal the bottom and sides?
@SteveGettle

Thanks we love it. There is a roof over the blind which keeps the rain out, and the blind is above the water table so...

Pretty cool, how do you keep the water fresh, pumps or filters?
@SteveGettle

No need so far may have to add a bubbler at some time to keep the water moving a bit. We would of course turn that off when we are shooting so we don't ruin the reflections.

In the video you say the pond is 4x12. But from the image is it really 6x12? Also did you build the blind and then lower it into the ground? Last question did you use 3/4 inch plywood. Thanks really enjoyed your video.
@SteveGettle
@SteveGettle 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! You are right... it is 6 x 12 - nice catch! The only reason ours is so wide is because we wanted room for 3 photographers in the blind. The most important dimension is actually the length so you can get a great reflection when shooting from such a low angle. Yes we dug the hole and then dropped the pre-built blind in. The blind is made with 3/4 inch exterior grade plywood. Probably overkill but I also put 6 inches of pea gravel in the bottom of the hole to facilitate drainage of any water that might seep in.

I added a 2x8 board to my blind and mounted the ball head to it. Now I noticed how loud the shutter sound is when shoot from the mount. Any ideas how to remedy the sound increase? I am think of a rubber mount of some kind that I can bolt under the ball head between it and the wood.

Hey Dan I actually just made a 30 second audio recording of my camera's shutter firing in short bursts and played in on a loop for a couple of days in the blind, the birds quickly learned to ignore it.
