After watching this video you will be able to describe the path of the ground reaction force throughout the stance phase of the gait in relationship to an individual joint: hip, knee or ankle.

I have watched several of your videos about gait mechanics, and they are by far the clearest and best on youtube. This is a difficult concept and you have described it beautifully. My entire PTA class is thankful for your videos.

this description is limited because it excludes description of the weight transfer to the other foot, no mention of rate of change of force, and fails to describe the amount of force reaction

This video is meant for physical therapy students studying gait for clinical purposes. It is not meant to cover every biomechanical variable during gait, because it’s not clinically relevant. Specifically to the variable you’ve mentioned: rate of change of force abs the amount depends on the persons mass, the speed of walking, striking pattern, ground surface etc. These factors are inconsistent variables, therefore have to be addressed in a specific context. Example: a runner exerts an X amount of ground reaction force when running at X speed on concrete striking with the heel of the foot. And of course you can keep adding variable to that example. The description is specific to what is being presented in physical therapy programs across the US, necessary to describe muscular activations that are associated with and based on the ground reaction forces. I hope you find what you’re looking for in another KZbin video.

I correct the word "misleading" to "incomplete". I have been seeing some physical therapist about my foot and they seem to know very little about the gait and can't offer advice about how to adjust my gait to deal with preventing complications from functional hallux limitus. In fact, some of the exercises they have been giving me have injured my MPJ and they don't care to find out why.. they just keep giving me improper advice and excercise. That they are trained with so limited knowledge of the foot is quite troubling. So, I am here trying to do my own education and I am already know how to prevent injury and are making proper adjustments.. but my knowledge and skill is still incomplete.. so i need to keep educating myself.

@@endo9902 I’m sorry to hear that, I can certainly understand your frustration. Let’s see if I can help you out. I can message my fellows and see if there is anyone in your area. They’re trained manual therapy fellows, which is of course an extensive training after PT school. A lot of them are professors and also biomechanics experts. What state are you located in?

@@AlexandraKopelovich thank you. I am in the San Francisco California Area. I am willing to drive far in order to get guidance in regards to functional hallux limitus. I am fortunate enough that I have no significant damage to my joints so I want to be wise about how I use my body so that I maximize my chances of avoid needless and preventable pain/suffering and surgery..etc.. Thank you for your attention. It gives me some hope.
