Groundbreaking Ceremony, Roulet Units 12 & 13

Groundbreaking for units 12 and 13 at the Anadarko plant was held on Tuesday, October 15, at the site of the new generating units. These 2 new units are powered by the same GE LM 6000 technology found at the current Orme and GenCo sites located at the Anadarko Plant. This will bring the total megaWatts generated by natural gas at Anadarko to 650 megaWatts including the 3 combined cycle units and the new total of 7 LM 6000 units. The old steam units 1, 2, and 3 have been slated for total retirement.
Planning for this project has been underway for over a year. It takes a lot of input from different departments to bring a project like this to fruition, from insurance for the project, to evaluating technologies, engineers and construction companies, environmental permitting and how it will tie in with the SPP and the marketplace, among others.
The EPC contractor Fagan is onsite and mobilizing their crews as you watch this video. WFEC has been working with Sargent & Lundy as the owner’s engineer for the addition of Units 12 and 13.
Units 12 and 13 will be named the Roulet Units after current CEO, Gary Roulet. According to Board of Trustees president, Donnie Bidegain, the board was unanimous in the decision name the units Roulet 12 & 13 - under his leadership he was instrumental in this project.
Gary Roulet added that retiring units 1,2, and 3 which are obsolete units that only ran sparingly, and were very inefficient, and using their existing transmission for units 12 and 13 that are new, efficient and state of the art, will provide benefits to cooperative retail customers as soon as they are commercial.
Adding two more Combustion Turbines identical to the existing 5 Combustion Turbines at Anadarko will increase reliability, lower maintenance costs, and help keep electric rates low as possible for our distribution members.
