Right?, this has to be one of my biggest complaints with this game, the illusion of choice when in reality they just railroad your options in a game that is already pretty difficult (and lock important upgrades to post final boss), leaving you with either a subpar build or doing the same thing over and over. This game needed atleast another 6 months in the oven imo

Guh, i want to be a dev some day, but if you ever see a game made by "Agrax" and you see that i don't listen to the community- please remind me what Obstruidian does. Players should have ALL the choices. If the game is s'pposed to be difficult but they find a way to cheese it, so be it. Unless it spoils other people's fun, devs should never do stuff like that. It really pains me that some effers forget that devs make games for PEOPLE, for PLAYERS, not for the art. The players should be the goal. What they want should be prioritized (as long as it doesn't collide too much with your vision of the game, because there were cases where devs listened to players and it made the game worse)

In my opinion the main advantage of Coup de Grass is not the extra damage, it's the staggering of enemies. Personally I prefer using fast weapons like daggers or spears, currently running the Rust Spear. Using fast weapons lands more crits, and if I'm really blessed by RNGsus I can even stunlock an enemy - not as much as in earlier builds of the game though, but, to be honest, Coup de Grass was super op before.

The trade-off of the item attacking more times is that it does less damage on each attack, so when you do land a crit the damage increase is proportional to a smaller base damage. In other words there is no crit advantage to using a fast attacking weapon.

yeah, it's a bummer that there's entire armor sets built around Crit but it doesn't give you any meaningful way to stack Crit. They should make it more transparent with all abilities, armor, food etc. by giving specific details.

I love this game but it might be time to just turn in the last quest and take a break. I'm a big fan of dagger builds and dagger dps, I use Coup de grass not for the extra damage, but for the chance to interrupt an attack animation; when you get a critical hit it acts like a mini stun and with a dagger build your stun chance is so low, I really like it xD

I play with crossbow and I crit every ~4 or 5 hit so, I don't know I think it's OK since you can cancel bugs attack with crits + chance to knock of bugs with sharpshooter

Imo coup de grass also increases proc chance for poison nova, poison coating, and venom from motherclub apex predator. Seems nova pops almost twice every short fight with coup on

Thanks for these types of videos explaining the numbers. Playing Grounded and trying to make good decisions regarding equipment is very confusing. I wouldn't be surprised if all the resistances for monsters are not as expected as well.

@@horrordudealma generic is like the broodmother club which isn't listed as a specific type of damage. Theoretically the broodmother club should do the same damage to all enemies before defenses are applied (I assume different bugs have different defense stats, makes sense that a ladybug or black ox beetle takes less damage than a gnat), regardless of resistances. iirc the generic damage weapons are only the spiky sprig, both ant clubs and the brood mother club.

Fought Schmector on Whoa with a Rusty Spear, Ladybug Armor, Coup de Grass, and a Spider Slider. Not a crit build by any means, but even with that set up I was able to stagger lock him so badly he only fired up the lasers once the entire fight. Ignore the math, it's deceiving. I can see not using Coup de Grass for lesser enemies, but if you're playing on Whoa enemies have a lot more hp, making it more viable. Also, Trapper Peep.r is unlocked at 5/10/15 gold cards, or at least it was immediately after 1.0 released. Not sure if that's what was intended, but I can guarantee that's when I unlocked them. I looked. And no, I hadn't acquired double gold cards.

This game is really fun…as long as you are a casual gamer. The minute you start to min max, or start digging past surface level into game mechanics, it all goes to poop. As a survival/rpg game guy, a was really enjoying this game for about 20-30 hours. Once I got a good grasp and started digging past the surface level I very quickly started to get frustrated and lost the interest and wonder I had.

Ive just crossed 20+ Hours and Im feeling this way too. My most recent play session I spent farming Mosquitoes to get the rapier before venturing towards to haze lab and I regret it so much. The stats made it seem like a better choice, but it just wasnt. It just feels like they want you to play a certain way, which is dumb in a survival type game.

Today I went to the woodpile. After killing every termite and going to the king, I've critted him with rusty spear and havent got hit even once, and only thing that stopped me was running out of stamina. I used Coup de Grass, Trapper Peep.R T1 and pretty much nothing else that would increase my crit chance. I don't think that it is so low.

So the only thing I can add to this is from my experience how ever many hits it takes to proc the critical hit carries over from enemy to enemy in my experience. I've literally 2 hit lady bird larva with a pinch whacker before because my 2nd swing was a critical hit. I've also gotten 3 or 4 critical hits while fighting the same wolf spider so do what you will with that information. But I can say for certain at least in my experience the percentage carries over from enemy to enemy.

As a bow/dex type player, this game has sucked all the fun of build right out. Bows (not crossbows) die at tier 2 and crit odds are super mediocre so guess ill just go play a better balanced game

i feel the devs are mistaken in nerfing builds. sure if a super op build is discovered in a pve game, a lot of players will use it. but im pretty sure many will stop using it and try out other builds. if i don't have to compete with other builds, why would i settle for a build i don't like, just because it does x% more damage that i dont even need?

@J You have to farm some 3 fuckings mantises to get a nice crit set. You have to kill the Hedge Broodmother before each attempt at the mantis. There is nothing easy about this process. The reward of this ordeal should be OP. They should've nerfed the crit by making the damage multiplier slightly lower, not by making it never happen. I played some 150 in-game days before I even knew there was such a thing as "critical hits" in this game.

@@TheAntonysusanto Go to the trash pile. Find the black ant colony. Somewhere on the way between those points there's a bugged place where they drop A LOT of food. Like hundreds of pieces. You need to destroy them and put simple walls around that point to discourage the ants from bugging out. The bug bases on the simple fact that ants bring food to the colony until there's X pieces of it there. As they bug out, they drop it and go to find another piece, but they bug out one more time. The spot will be rather visible, because there's just ungodly amounts of food and spoiled food there

I hate to say this, but as someone who just beat the Broodmother on my solo Woah play-through, and a lot of your views would change I feel if you played on a harder difficulty. for me i always use meat shield, buff lungs, natural explorer, cardio fan, and mithirdatism while wandering the yard then when i get close to something i want to fight i turn off natural explorer and if its not a wolf spider or black widow then mithirdatism too and turn on blade master and parry master and leave everything else the way it is. hopefully for new players this is helpful

In short you basically finished the game and just sticking around to get more materials to get a chance to have bigger damage or special effects to kill "enemies" you killed over and over for said materials faster only to find out it got silently nerfed, and you have to guess if it processed or not cause devs can't be bothered to put status symbols on a huge ass health bar even though they already made icons for the effect. Fascinating.

Had this problem too huge lag and frequent stutters. The black ants at the trash pile are bugged and leaving a huge amount of food in the water under the trash, you need to go there and pick up and delete all the food. This fixed it for me and others.

even if it was worth it and when its technically overpowered. crit builds relies entirely on your skill like your ability to dodge, parry, juke them and play the system while assessing situation without factoring in possible damage bonuses or crit stunning, hence the saying "don't tell me the odds".

It’s a chance droparte for the gold cards. I think for all enemies, that have the chance drop, it’s 1%. So you can get lucky or unlucky. RNG in this game is brutal. Been farming mantis and brood mother for trinket and nothing still.

Have you been harvesting all the ants you kill? The gold card will drop when you harvest the body of whatever you killed, not just when you kill it. So if you haven't been harvesting then you probably got it multiple times but didn't actually claim it.

critical chance and critical builds are always a bad design to me in game. If crit chance is too low, they are weak. once crit chance is high enough, stacking crit damage is the only good option and also 'breaks' the game. super hard to balance and could all be avoided by not having a crit chance system. This and the concept of 'magic find' or 'luck %' are things devs need to just realize shouldn't be in games.

What would you advice to run as an end game damage set if crits are bad? Poison got nurfed (they nurfed hard all broodmather items and didnt mention in in patchnotes) , crit apparelntly suck (cause Mantis is last boss you do . Maybe almost last but she is harder then actual storry end bosses. If you killed her you dont need a boss slaying build). Ranged ? Also got stamina nerf . At this point , I have no idea what to actually use lol. Magic maybe? But Staffs damage structures . That removes mixers and those are a big part of the end game .(Also , there is no staff for salt so no hunting beetles with one)

Staves had a stamina nerf as well iirc, but not sure. And we're still not 100% sure if the dmg upgrade works now.

Shhh I’ll let you in on a little secret, if you shoot the staff and instantly parry once fired you can shoot the staff again without having to wait ;)

I think the crit's main function is to interrupt the enemy's attack, not to do extra dmg (unless you're using yoked blows). I think it will be useful for people how cant block and want to attacked less

That would explain some of the staggers I've seen from my brother's arrows. Think most of the crits we got were in the middle of ant lions charging up their attacks only to suddenly stop. He's been using the Bee armor set which results in higher bow stun while me and his friend focus on melee. Now if only my right click wasn't so finicky in games...

Played since day one of beta and I can confidently say the game is shit. They've made so many poor development decisions and they will continue to do so.
