Grounded: I Found the PERFECT Spot to Build a Base

Nowadays I just conquer the Oak. I build around it, on the wooden fence, I wall the wolfspiders so they can only leave through the other side and then connect all my zipline on different heights of the oak. No faction besides mosquitoes and bees can reach it and I've never aggro'd a raid on these factions, because the stuff they drop is useless. My most common raids are orb weavers and they can shoot their web, but if you wall some pathways, you can hold them up easily. By the time a critical raid is coming, you already have a spicy coaltana.

@@zielonythewolf5069 When you play on Medium or Whoa, or Custom with raids on, the raids will scale following your equipment and how many raids happened before. I've triggered 5 Orb Weaver raids. At first, just two Jrs., right? The fifth one was 6 orb weavers and some 5, 6 jrs.

@@zielonythewolf5069 Things that get you raided are: trespassing their "nests" and killing their units, probably worse if you kill them at their nest. Every run I needed web fiber, I killed everything inside the hedge, a raid is guaranteed. They get worse as you rinse and repeat. Maybe you haven't aggro'd that many times. On Whoa is easier to trigger and the raids are worse.

@@zielonythewolf5069 Everytime you enter the surroundings of their nest, you are adding a number to the raid trigger. I've noticed that while I even haven't killed that many specimens of that species.

That’s a great spot. I tend to prefer the oak tree because you return to it frequently to turn in chips through the game but I also set up multiple smaller outpost bases with basic necessities (sleep, cooking, water, crafting) all around the map, usually near science stations so I can get more quests every morning after I sleep or near materials I need (one near hedge for berries, one near haze for fungal growth, etc.)… plus I just really enjoy building bases. 😜

I built here on my first playthrough of this game with my friend, I played the forest so I kinda knew how to pick bases in these types of games... glad this spot was getting the recognition it deserves... SIDE NOTES: I am on like day 94 in woah mode and I have only had one super small red ant raid, and there is a wolf spider that patrols the outside pretty often but isnt a problem with the outer walls

What’s funny is that after my friends got besieged by orb weavers while chilling at our old base near the oak, they actually ran to that spot by accident and started building like mad while some of us were offline. Weevils spawn like crazy around those mushrooms so we were never lacking food, and the area was generally safe except for a single wandering wolf spider that showed up once every few days. One of the best spots we found by accident by far

My first (and so far only) base is on the rock next to the juicebox on the lake (the first one you're likely to see, just downhill from the soda can by the oak). I chose it mostly because it was a nice flat area, and I set it up long before I had the ability to build foundations. Now that all my stuff is there, it would take so much to move it that I've never really considered doing so...

Me too! I built my very first base directly behind that juice box and even in late game I'm still hanging around there (while having expanded my base a little bit over time, of course). It's extremely nice to get quick to the muscle sprouts in the Pond Lab and also some other stuff for crafting the Green Machine Smoothie, while lots of tadpoles in the Koi Pond provide you with tons of food. Both make a perfect start into a typical day for farming tours in different locations on the map. :)

My best base design was on the Oak tree. Use sap collectors as stairs to get up to the mushrooms half way up. On those mushrooms you can place the wooden supports and expand from there all the way around the tree. High up enough to have zip lines to every corner of the map without any blocking grass etc. Also if you do get raided they will only hit one sap collector if it is too low down. To rebuild it you can grab a fresh acorn from 10m away and rebuild.

In my most recent playthrough, I built my main base on the ledge, east of the ladybird larvae cave. It's tucked into the corner with a Roly Poly as a guard dog and has a field station nearby. I have bounce webs near the Frankenline to go from the lower yard quickly, and another set in my base to climb to the upper yard. It's safe and has quick access to a ton of resources, and comes complete with a great view.

I built there in EA, except I had it start on the leaf up on top of the stick, where your bedroom is, so the whole base is fully elevated off the ground. Doing so you probably wouldn't even have to worry about faction raids.

Just started playing in the last month or so. I went with a main base on the rock-plateau north of the red ant-hill, then a zipline hub-tower on the baseball (with lines pointing out towards, and returning from, various locations in the lower half of the yard). And now I'm starting on what I expect will be my final big build, a mushroom-brick tower on top of the pond-gondola (to serve as a zipline hub for the upper yard). Well, maybe not my absolute last build - I see a lot of suggestions to experiment around the oak tree... . Anyway, for the time being, all three of the currently selected locations are immune to attack from the ground, and in advantageous spots to quickly gather diverse important resources.

I've been building there since always. Do be careful when leaving the place, there are a few Wolf spider which wander the area some nights. But besides that, it is indeed a great spot.

Yes the cliff side valley a wolf spider patrols ever few nights, and he can jump up it. Dang wolf spider hit box gets smaller when it jumps. Can jump through a single opening in a wall when it jumps.

I agree that area is central and nice for resources. My starter base was on a large rock by the neighboring plateau and the mint container, near the science station by the anthill. I could jump across to that plateau from the first floor to collect dew and eventually put a couple farm plots there. I've since moved to what I think is going to be a more secure location over by the tipped flower pot and building a much larger base. This is my first play through so we'll see how that goes.

In every game I've made, I've built here. Originally I'd build on the leaf at the top because it was indestructible, but I'm slowly working my way downwards. Glad you highlighted this awesome spot!

Another good place is the porch, the house porch has no bugs that spawn. You should use it if your trying to escape bigger threats

Always preferred along the wood boundary right between the pond and first research station. Its very close to the red ant mound. If you wear the red ant armor starting out, while you build, they won't aggro you; and you can easily start building along the top or underground in a small trench close by.

I was building this base at this spot when suddenly a humongous wolf spider jumpscared me while it was out patrolling 😂 I ran away and when I came back, the wolf spider was stuck in the base. 80+ arrows and a few spears later, I killed my first wolf spider. So I think its gonna stay as my wolf spider trap from now XD Thank you! 😂😂

This is exactly where I built on my solo game. Start on the leafy at the top. Next thing I knew I ended up making it a mansion for changing into a multiplayer game with my friends who can’t play the game as much as I can. I have a few look out branches for easy sniping the wolf spider with arrows. And surrounded the outer walls with spike traps. Theres a larva den not to far from the oak root that the larva comes from. I stumble across it a couple days ago. Never knew it was there haha. But you can cover that root with about 15-18 sap collectors. Even have some on the root a bit closer to the tree. Never had an issue with anything attack them yet. On raids they tend to go for the mansion. Haha

I just built on top of the rock next to the device in the middle of the 3 lasers. Kind of a tall, skinny thing with the decorative stem windows/walls, clover roofing. 4 levels of it. Few things can hit it effectively. And I put a center-pillar up through it of the pebble pillar material for support in case the bottom floor gets especially damaged (wold spiders can definitely reach the bottom floor). Can fight wolf spiders from inside the electrical device in my yard though. Lots of weevils/dew, centrally located. The lasers point the way home too.

I made a base over near the stink bugs for natural protection against wolf spiders patrolling and when they fight free parts. Also was thinkin of building a hallway all the way from the stink bugs past the ant hill to the first field station. So if u wanted to build like that where ur base is that might be feasible since that seems a little closer in distance to the field stations u showed

I build on a rock next to the field station where you start the game. Then build walls completely around the station as well and make it a beautiful complex there.

Just started back up playing Grounded after its initial early release a few years back. I was looking for a decent starting base & I came across your video. I might just pick & use this same area & build from there. The thing I like the most is the long tree stick you pointed out to get to your base a bit easier. Work smarter, not harder is my go to motto haha

The beginning base is exactly where I built my new base on my new 1.0 playthrough. Then I just made grass floor bridges connecting my base to the bird bath field station and all of the other lilly pads to give me room for building more stuff. Nothing can get you out there and if something like a Wolf Spider is dumb enough to try, they'll either drown in the water jumping after you or get stuck on a pad where you can kill them from range. The 2nd base is where I've built another one as well. The playthrough on that one was mainly for medium mode/faction raids. I used palisades around the entire perimeter of the base and then put-up triple mushroom block walls beyond that. Then I had 3 cannons, 1 on each side protecting my flanks and 1 directly in the middle, each with it's own acorn chest full of pebbles to shoot. It may have been a little overkill on the walls, but you can never enough barriers between you and a horde of bugs.

Call me crazy, but I went to the top of the baseball bat, built a few scaffolding supports on the end and started building a huge fort there (17x17 floor tiles, 4 towers for ziplines in different directions, and a two level 11x11 house/castle in the center, built on top of 4 double high pillars so the entire main level is completely open for whatever I need to put there...). My original base has been built around (literally, right above) the first field station near the baseball. Still working on my new base, but my thoughts are it's very high yet easy to get up to since you can literally just run up the bat. It not exactly central in the yard, but has a clear view of the entire yard and ziplines make traveling to anywhere a cinch. I also figure it's far out of reach of most insects, at least I haven't seen any trying to climb up (except one random ant one time, but it kind of appeared that it just glitched there, haven't seen anything since). I don't know what will happen if there is a raid, but time will tell... So far I'm loving it. Can easily zipline down to to porch, over to the bbq, sandbox, the hedge or anywhere else I want, it's all within line of sight...

I’ve always used these orange leaves for building since day 1. I felt like all the youtubers where ignoring my comments about the orange leaves. I feel like this is the first time i’ve personally seen someone else use the orange leaves. I always climbed up that stick to the top leaf and built on top of that location. I haven’t played since jumping bugs, idk how protected all my leaf bases are. I don’t use the baseball at the start that first orange leaf has always been my main base. Its nice to have a bridge up to the little cliff there at the start.

The high up flat plateau behind the leaf next to the mysterious machine is a stones throw from Where you are and I think hits all your marks, and tops your location based on the large flat area to build that’s also on a cliff that can’t get raided 2/3s of the perimeter

I built a way station here once. I decided to build a raised walkway between my first base and my pond/oak base and it passed straight through this spot. I decided to use the area to build a small hut so I didn't have to go all the way back to base to sleep and cook.

I did end up building an outpost here when ever I would get raided. My main base was built before raids. And wasn't properly set up for defense, I never wished to move all my stuff so I made a holdout here using that one-way up you pointed out

I usually set up multiple small bases, but my favorite is the sprinkler by the hedge. It’s on a small island so no terrestrial critters can attack. Worst thing that’ll bother you is a mosquito but that’s unlikely. Easy access to berries, easy to pick off orb weavers, and plenty of gnats that fly overhead for food.

That's my exact 1st/main base location. Does get raided a bit, but the weavels (noise) get annoying. That stick is my main stairwell into the base. There are two patrolling wolf spiders in that area, and depending on where you are in the story, there are frequently large orc insects on patrol.

Thats the spot where I built a lookout tower. A grass wall and then some platforms up as high as I could build. Since I got familiar with the yard, and got ziplines, I never go there anymore. The top of the baseball worked for me. I thought I would make a better base eventually but couldn't be bothered. Just a few camps here and there, where I gather resources. Sometimes I just build for fun, like this mushroom I had to build a house under. It looks really cool from the outside but I never use it and its empty.

I managed to comfortably cram a 2 story base into the tunnel that leads out from the Kid Case. One entrance into my base and the heel print out the front is my weevil trap. When I'm finished a roam I choose the give up option, spawn at Kid Case, then 'recover backpacks' option and BAM. No return trip necessary. Also built my zipline tower on-top of the baseball. Gives me access to literally everything 😃

theres a larva spawn nearby that makes that location that much better, and there is like three - four more mushroom spawns surrounding that location in a safe distance around it.

My first base is near that wolf spider sleeping under leaves, haha I just picked a corner and built a giant wall so the bombers don't attack us, the wolf spider don't bother us, and near we have a bunch of mushrooms. It is our first play through with my friend and I picked that place, I didn't know there was like 3 bombers near our base, a wolf spider and it could be raided. After I watch some of your videos we are fine. It is a little dangerous, but worth it, you got materials, food, and farm tier 2 items

Pond base. Water front view. I built a small extension off the lilypad so I could walk up the slender stick without jumping (and falling). Then another extension off the rock towards the lilypad so I could race straight home, again, never hit water. Neither extension touches shore. So safe from land bugs. Difficulty is finding local water. So have two canteens.

For food there’s a little pond on the east side of the mad where the rotten berry trinket is located, there’s a ton of gnats and weevils that spawn there. And water source from the sprinkler

After watching this video (thanks!) I built my second base there. It was a very good spot until I enraged the orb weavers for the umpteenth time...I built my third base on the solar yard lamp, right next to the wolf spider den at the base of the oak tree. THAT is my perfect spot in game, so far. Three twigs that lead up to the bottom of the lantern and a leaf (put my foundation there, out of reach of ground attacks) built up and onto the top of it and then across to the oak itself. Can farm the wolf spiders there with two pieces of stem wall, grubs/acorns/gnats are literally below my base (gnat swarms every night thanks to the lamp going on!) so endless Gnatchos. All basic plants are just a few steps away, including big mushrooms and husky weeds. I ran a zipline across to the corner of the wall by the Berry Outpost, and that is my berry/clay farming area. Great game, and your tips have helped me several times, thanks!

i started playing with a friend some weeks ago, once per week, and wie build our base right next to the Mashine because we thought it would be usefull. When we discoverd the Turrets we slowly started to make our house into a castle with def on all sides. Hope we can start building some outposts in the future since bulding in the game is rly cool.

Still gonna go with the large flat rock at the end of the log wall by koi pond. It's technically in the grasslands and you have to jump up to reach it. Resources everywhere, close to center map, and I've only had ant and orb weaver retaliation and they can't reach it so they just give up. Also has a nice straight shot for a zip line to upper yard.

I build either next to the frakenstein etch o sketch or w.e its called or on the lilypads themselves. Waterbase is nice and once you get floating foundations you could make the entire pond your base. The frankenstein is on a fairly flat stone and only times ive ever been attacked was orbs or larva.ate game infected can attack but thats it.

i've only recently started playing, but this looks like a great spot. I would recommend seeing if you could build a small tower on top, maybe attached to the side, that you could use as a zipline tower. I've been trying to think of places to build bases that would be not just defensible, but also have good line of sight to have ziplines to get back and forth across the map quickly. That leaf might be a good place for the tower, would put it high enough to have ziplines going to and from the lamps around you.

If you wanna good zip line tower, honestly my friends and I can’t recommend enough that you get floating platforms and make one massive, and I mean MASSIVE tower in the middle of the pond. Milton said himself it’s defensible so don’t take it from me, but if you want central, it’s as central as it gets. One tower that’s tall enough and you can reach the upper yard, the tree, the hedge, the haze, the base of the picnic table, the grill, the sandbox, castle moldorc, and get close to the woodpile, the shed, the coffee pot, and the fire ant hill. Plus you can make jump off points all over the yard to take you back to the base of the pond tower, and once you do, you basically have a fast travel system.

my first base was on the boot print by the mysterious machine and baseball, if you're looking for a similar spot without the rock and leaf I'd highly recommend that! downsides: -no easily accessible spot for sap catchers -lots of grass upsides: -2/3 is raised which forces mobs to go around during raids -by juicebox -by haze (upside depending on how you view it) -mushrooms nearby -no big bugs besides the occasional ladybug or firefly -nearby station behind it -baseball incase you want a base that stretches across multiple spots

A wolf spider does in fact patrol the juice box over there, found it doing a nightly run back to my base from the oak tree thinking I was safe and then I saw it just camping Infront of the juice box until it decided to hunt me and go up on the leaf lol

Actually, I built my first base right on the baseball and it's still my favourite place. right in the middle of everything and it's only accessible via that stick and noting climbs up there so it is super easy to defend. Also, a lab is nearby, mushrooms that attract weevils and the Respawn box is close so you can always choose to respawn at your base no matter where your actual respawn point is currently set.

bit of a late comment, but I've been playing the game since very early access and I always liked to build my base on the wooden wall east of the oak tree. it's close enough to the lab to turn in chips, its close to the koi pond for early progression into koi armor, and it has mushrooms and the soda and juice box nearby for easy food and drinks. not to mention that it's off the ground so easily defendable, you can build it out if you need more space and you can make it so you use 1/1.5 grass floors from the platform towards the root to jump from the root into your base. this makes it harder for any enemy to get to it cause there's no pathing into it without jumping. only way they can get in is if they do a jump/dash attack towards you from the perfect spot on the root. might be a bit cheesy but if you build it well, you don't even need a door :P

i made my base at the end of the wooden fence closest to the oak lab entrance. its good because there is a small place to put sap collectors and its easy to defend if you dont have alot of stuff on the ground. the only real thing that get attacked in raids is the bounce pads i use to get into my base but other than that i have a really good set up for my chests and a zip-line hub. almost beat the entire game.

make sure around the outside perimeter you put clay slabs before they can get to your walls. I'd say 2 high, & that will prevent you from having to worry about them destroying your good walls. The 4 clay is cheaper than 8 sticks & 3 crude rope. Looks dope🤙

I disagree; that's a massive aesthetic downgrade. I'd rather rebuild a couple walls (with the highly abundant local resources) rather than turn the surrounding area into a parking lot.

I use that stick on the rock every time I play and I've always wondered if I was dumb because it's never in vids but you can walk up that stick build on the leaf and be safe for the game with the bare minimum.

I swear to god I told my gf the other day that I have an attachment to that leave and the other orange leaf above it they can be connected. I decided on building on top the White soda can next to the tree. I haven’t gotten to the upper yard yet and wanted to wait and see what it looks like up there for a build build.

Me and my friends mane base is built between a giant rock and the spacr control we figured it would help to have some indestructible infrastructure , and than built a satellite base on the pond and one in the upper yard.

I built a tree house castle. Not very big 2 different buildings and used stem flooring to make it start going around the tree. So far nothing has reached me. A simple zip line up and yes Bern lucky so far

Nah, that spot between an Oak and a wooden fence with the research lab below it is the best. You literally have everything there and with good zip line system you can get everywhere real quick. Sure, you can build everywhere, even at the garbage spot or in blueberry brushes, but some spots are just better.

me and my friend just built a little circle with grass planks around the first field station you’ll find

I've set up on the stones near the tree/pond. quick to analyze and not to far from anything endless going twards the house.

That was my very 1st location in grounded. I will go back visit that spot and see what I can do now after a year of playing.
