I just saw this in the movie theater. It is not masterpiece, but it is good drama, and the music is not bad. Lots of Negative Nancys around here! Better than yet another La boheme in the Zeffirelli production!!

There is nothing grounded about this mélange of musical and theatrical doo-doos. There is an aria about the making of a PowerPoint presentation. Grounded drags on and one until it reaches the precipice.

I like tunes as much as the next person, but to judge music on whether or not it has a "tune" seems narrow to me.

Time to fire Gelb. All he does is piss money away on schlock that has no musical appeal or staying power. So, okay, we get more Bohemes and Toscas and Rigolettos than we need, but why not explore some of the lesser known works from the 19th century, many of which have definite musical merit: La Reine de aba, Siberia, Les Huguenots, I Cavalieri di Ekebu, among others

Because they are mostly dumb, tacky, cheesy, corny, kitschy and boring. There are so many great and meaningful music in the 20th and 21st century which contains actual, intelligent topics, exciting music and great roles. Opera is also for people who going to theatre and opera not just look for "beautiful" and empty phrases, high note circuses or unnecessary million dollar costumes, but thinking and enjoying something deep and thoughtful. There are incredibly corny peejudices about contemporary operas. If you always look for easy melodies there are lots of great shows in Vegas from great pop stars. It is incredible how much hatred can something get which is different. Especially in the U.S. Disappointing
