Great video! I’ve painted my models with brushes all my life, I am so intimidated trying my airbrush (maybe it’s like teaching an old dog a new trick). I know I need to take the next step.

Don’t be, it’s a daunting task at first and does take some learning but honestly is easier than you imagine, and once you get over the initial teething problems it’s a breeze and super simple to achieve what would take 3hrs with a brush in less than 30 mins.

The effort that goes into using a paint brush instead of a airbrush shows and now I can better understand how an airbrush will cost money upfront but it will save you money in the long run on time especially if you doing commissions. Thank you for the video.

Yea it’s virtually 3 times the amount of work with a brush alone but it has its merits. I kinda prefer the brush look but also time is a huge thing to take into consideration when commission painting

I watched a Sideshow video of their painting process, they just do a base layer then do primary color washes for tint & textures, i guess that would be a faster way for mass production, but your way definitely looks more lively!

This would be my slow way of painting. I defo use an airbrush for this normally. And it takes quick a full face skin in like 10/15 mins. I’m not sure why they do it that way it seems like a lot of extra work to me but this video was to show people who always saying they can’t do it with out an airbrush I wanted to show you can

I think im going to do the opposite and use an airbrush. Seriously awesome video! I was confused at first when you were painting the face in different blotches and you're right it didn't make sense at first. But the way everything came together. *(italian chefs kiss)* What kind of airbrush do you use when you use one? also how long did this whole process take?

@1:41 OR you could have stippled it on with a large make-up brush, or go all fancy and use an Artist Opus dry-brush. Not only do you get equal to or greater smoothness (1 coat no less), but you can do it in a fraction of the time without having to deal with the loading and cleaning the air-brush.

You know, you should get an airbrush - it'd be much quicker! The anti-airbrush crowd often have a laundry list of assumptions about what having an airbrush will entail - typically re-mortgaging the house, installing industrial grade sound proofing and particle filtration - but when pressed, it often comes down to them simply not want one and being annoyed that other people do. My hobby space is roughly 2'x18". My whole set-up cost less than £120. The compressor is a basic tankless AS18, when in use it sits on top of a pillow, with another one on top - not recommended for long sessions, but it reduces the dB to nothing more than a slight burbling and is inaudible outside the room. I wear a simple dust mask and put down a dust sheet on my work surface. When finished, I pack everything away, give the surrounding area a light dust and the compressor lives on top of a book shelf. Didn't cost a lot, doesn't take up a lot of room, make a lot or noise or mess.
@Groundeffected
@Groundeffected 2 жыл бұрын
My airbrush stays out it’s a tool I use every day in every painting I do. Some people are purists too and really don’t believe it’s “proper” or “right” to bless you use a brush only. It’s the same in all art fields. Now that art is going digital some people still think paper or canvas is the only real art and digital is cheating. Until they try it for them selves and find it’s a whole new skill to learn. There’s no cheating about it.
