So much respect for this group. Not only do they write adventurous, complex music, but they record it LIVE in front of an audience, no punching in extra takes on solos. Just them and their instruments and they manage to take risks even then - detuning his E string down to a Db in the middle of a solo?! These guys know what they are, the music they want to make, and exactly the steps it takes to get it there. Love it

Does anyone else notice how later, at 7:46, he realizes that the 4th string was out of pitch by a quarter tone... but he doesn't let it bother him. Instead, he rides it out, and plays the whole idea through.. The imperfection makes the solo so much better to listen to. Nevertheless, he DOES avoid the 4th string to the end of song... That's what I call being in the zone.

If you asked fans of the pups what their favorite song is I suspect not many would come up with "Young Stuff" as their number 1, maybe not even in the top 5 (since there are sooo many *great* songs). Sometimes I have to play this song twice in a row. Between Cory's "Sunday go to meeting" solo and Michael's soulful entry to some butt shakin' playin' including retuning his string in mid-note more than once, this song deserves a *lot* more attention than it gets.

I highly doubt these tracks were mastered with no EQ being to a single instrument during the mixing stage. Kudos to the sound engineer and if the bass really sounds this clean then excuse all remaining doubt that I have.
@Cornbreadddd10 жыл бұрын
Tom Gummings Yeah..definitely agree with that. As a side note I can only imagine how tough their music must be to mix due to the large amount of moving parts. It comes out sounding so clean and perfect though, great team all the way around.
@mr_ock10 жыл бұрын
Tom Gummings I saw them do a workshop a while ago, and i was extremely surprised by how good they sounded, and i knew from experience this is a difficult stage. I also have my doubts about their statement that no overdubs were used, but you have to keep in mind that they're all experienced musicians that know how to listen to each other, making the sound engineers job a lot easier.

He's got so much POG on his bass that it sounds more like an organ solo, but a real organ sounds much better tbh. And while he solos in this upper-mids range, he's not only taking away precious frequency range of the other musicians, but the piece now also lacks those deep bass notes that give a piece it's tonal and sonic foundation, on top of wich the other musician's notes just really start to shine.
@stenduginski23064 жыл бұрын
