It's sort of dragging, but this sounds like it was trying to emulate the early live version where the drum was played by Mr. Sput himself with that funky feel. I'd say it's the overstated mix that gives the difference, not for everyone imho.

@@Ana_crusis - yes. Download, streaming and vinyl (maybe CD?). Interestingly, I don’t find their vinyl recordings to sound as good as the digitial offerings, likely due to the pressing process.

you are absolutely right, i sat in on a session of Empire Central and was blown away by "RL's" and i can be seen wearing a white ballcap in that nights version of "Mean Green". also saw "Take It" featuring Bernard Wrights keys solo that (also included 3 different drum solos) oh my gawd that had the guitarists bouncing and garnered a standing ovation. yeah, i know how these people felt afterwards.
