Hi, first of all thank you for posting these! Question, for someone who doesn't have much experience with ground work, would it better to follow along with these videos now or wait till we have some experience with a partner first?

Hey, I would strongly advocate following along with these first and investing significant time in learning and refining each movement as they are the horsepower behind each technique you then apply with a partner. When you start working with a partner you will see these movements everywhere and it will make learning so much more efficient and easy. These movements are truly the foundation upon which all techniques are then built. As an additional point if you've not done much when you do get a partner I would prioritise the vast majority of your time working on positional escapes as this will give the best foundation upon which to build. Happy training, let me know what you think as you work through.👍

Nice work Daniel! So we can consider this as a Kata? Are there kata in Aikijujutsu usually?

Hey, good question. Firstly would I consider this a kata? Well the technical meaning of kata most closely translates as "form" and in that regard it is a standard form which we would apply to our fundamental practice but it is not a "set" or "fixed" form. It is Dynamic in its application and this is an essential axiom of its practice. So to answer the question. No I wouldn't regard it as a kata in the same way people often interpret the word in reference to most set karate kata etc however I would regard it as form of kata practice in the true meaning of the term... so yes. Are their kata in Aikijujutsu usually? Well much aikijujutsu practice is done primarily through twoman kata form. Solo forms are most common with weapons etc. We have several in the system of Aikijujutsu I practice. Some are older forms and some were developed both from my instructor and some I've developed myself. As regards is it usual. I'd say yes but not in a similar way to karate practice. Twoman kata are the norm.

Just as an additional point we do have set kata for each of the phases that come after this, pins, positions and holddowns, kata of escapes and then multiple submission based katas. We tend to keep this as purely a dynamic drill.

Thanks, I just gave it a go. Good warming up also. As experts says eg.Karate Kata might have been designed for knowledge transfer and single (home)-training primarily. Furhermore I also think the application with partner are dynamic and changeable we can agree it is a Kata- :-)
