Using one of the groundwork exercises that we teach our horses, Pat gives a groundwork lesson to our friends, Ben and Ellie, a couple who live close to us. Ben and Ellie were good sports and gave me permission to video their lesson. They are both interested in making bridle horses. The exercise that Pat taught them was driving their horses between them and the fence. You'll recognize Brownie and Seymore, two horses that we recently acquired. For more information, you can visit our website, www.thediscipli... . Please take a moment to hit the Like button, Subscribe to our channel (We're so close to hitting 50,000!!!), and Share with your friends. Thank you for watching!

Pat I love how you break down the lessons and show where the brace is and what collection looks like. Thank you for that wisdom.

What age to you start this technique? Or perhaps a better question is how young would you start this on colts? Thanks Toby from Western Kentucky

Would you apply this to a horse prone to strike, behavioral ?

When Pat took over with the bay at 19:35, that horse believed him right away. It always amazes me how horses just know.❤ I really appreciate the students allowing filming so the rest of us can learn too. Hats off to them.

Very informative and clear. Great video! I am very sorry to hear about Will. Obviously a huge loss for his family, friends, and the equestrian community as a whole.

Awe, my sympathy to you both & his family.😢 ....Thank you for sharing this training video. I've done this exercise, but you have shown us more of the little techniques that i think will be awesome to use! Can't wait to try this. Appreciate all you share with us. If I lived close to you guys, i'd be there often, learning more.😊 From Michigan.

Thank you Pat and Deb for this video. This is great content and very helpful to learn from! Thank you to the students for allowing this video to be shared for educational purposes - you both did great :-) Please continue to make more videos like these (especially from start to end of mastering the poles side passing). I am practicing with a pony I help look after and he is taking it in his stride. Such sad news, condolences to you, the family and friends

jeez! sorry for losing your mate down under. This is one of the more subtle and interesting lessons for anyone with a pushy, disrespectful horse. Seems so simple, move his feet not yours, but I can see how intricate it really is!

This is a beautiful video. Your students are very generous to let us learn from them. Pat, you and Deb show us the grace and confidence of your experience, which is a great teaching tool, but to see these students learning techniques that they haven't used before is so instructive -- we can easily imagine ourselves in their place, trying to present ourselves well. It would be wonderful if you could share more of your work with students like this. //// It's so sad that you all and the world has lost Will. Hasn't he been in some of your Australian videos? Devastating to those who loved him. So sorry.

Does anybody know what the heck to do when a horse has way too much energy on the ground and they are rearing and getting frustrated when asked to move the hind quarter and backing up? What else do you do with them to help them deflate their high energy??
@hoss00100

Do you round pen when you pull them from the stall or pasture before working on them? If you do go through all of the round pen work before starting your ground work, with this high energy horse, continue the pressure to move his hind over till he does move his hind over even the slightest bit, then release the pressure. Sounds like it’s going to be a sensitive and a bit by bit horse to work with. Make the right thing easy, and the wrong thing difficult. I hope this helps
