This video really helped me yesterday(Wednesday 25th Sept, 2024) as I facilitated my very first group counseling session for my school hours. Thanks soooo much for sharing it because i was absolutely stuck on what to do.

Wow…this was very helpful in getting to visualize some opportunities for me to work on. I’ve never been in a group therapy session this authentic and vulnerable before. It depresses me that I haven’t experienced something like this, but I’m happy to see this and get some ideas for the future. Thank you

this was extremely helpful im currently in graduate school for MFT and for one of my courses we are taking group therapy and I wanted to see a visual presentation of how to initiate a therapy which is one of my biggest fear and this was so helpful and I have a better understanding how certain activities can help guide clients establishing comfort for the client to not only share but to be able to feel comfortable chime in at at the appropriate time

Hi Marcos. These are not actual patients, we are all clinicians at the Lukin Center in NJ. We are trying to show how a typical group would look like. Hope this helps

I got a first appointment which I tought was going to be my first therapy session but instead they just wanted to hear my symptomes and then adviced group therapy instead. I feel hopeless looking at this because this is totally not what I had in mind. It sounds like so much bs to me. way to wavy/spritual.

Groups can harm people. Keeping people in groups they don’t feel safe can amount to manipulation. Analytic therapies that have no structure or goal can be horrendous. Group therapists have been indoctrinated to believe groups are beneficial and can be dangerously deaf to the fact that for some they can be traumatising. My experience was of a therapist sitting saying nothing. Then when she did talk it was so opaque as to be distressing. Over a year I never saw how it could ever help anyone. The experience was nothing like this video. There are different types of group therapy. Beware what you enter.

Terrible example of DBT group. I was in one group, transferred to another group that is excellent. I feel like this group was a waste of time. Poor example of Opposite Action.

What are they even there for? They're upbeat and have plenty of life experiences to brag about. Plenty of giggles and laughs, smiling. Is this even real?

I’m amazed at how many times “you guys” is said when there are 3 women in the room. Are we moving a way from this? What does everyone think. “Feeling like everyone has an understanding of one another.” “So , you guys think anything about what you guys have in common with you guys?” “Does everyone agree?”

And yet we, as humans, have the capacity to do many things. One of those many things is to be therapeutic and considerate. Is “guys” now non-binary and asexual?
