What size hook and leader are you using? I never fish for Goliath but I do have a torium 30 on a medium heavy 8’- do you think that could handle some under the bridges? I’m in Brevard.
@alejandro34857 ай бұрын
That would work for the size he’s catching but you may have trouble stopping them from getting you in the structure. You want a meat stick with locked down drag with around 80-100lb braid. That’s probably a 8/0-10/0 hook and 100-120lb leader. They’re not leader shy at all. Use 4x strong circles.

Interesting Have you paid the fine And should be if you do this you permanently loose license and have mandatory jailtime
@howardedwards59087 ай бұрын
@@L0st-n0found never got a fine n I've kept hundreds of them they are way overpopulated here but I have a buddy that did get a citation n was 75 bucks which is still cheaper then what the lotto is. But on a second note the ones they want you to keep is not the problem ones cuz they are juvenile jewfish the problem ones are the hundred pound + fish those need to be the ones we should take. I will still keep them as long as they are big enough to fillet

@@howardedwards5908 and you and friend should permanently loose your liscences, be fined enough to make it an extreme financial drain and serve at least a year or 20 in jail. You are what's wrong with America. Just imagine 10 million people did the same as you there would be no goliaths at all or anything else you decide to have a right to decimate. And yes as I said in a different comment a max size is ridiculous and harvest of one is ridiculous as is paying 10 just for a chance at paying 150. 30 for 5 or so tags per person or say 15 for 3 with a limited total per year could easily keep current population levels and the issue is we need less than current.

@@howardedwards5908 should loose license permanently, be in jail and fined prohibitively. People thinking they have a right to steal from everyone is what's wrong with USA. Nobody has a right to infringe on you but you can infringe on everyone and everything

I'm pretty sure those black lines in the fish meat are worms. I've seen them in red grouper too. They are harmless cooked but I wouldn't eat that fish raw.

I ate one last year and I didn’t think it was worth the $400 what so ever. The meat seemed to be very fatty. I felt like you had to over cook it and get some of the slimy/mushy texture out of it. On a positive note I learned I’d never put in for a tag.

It better be good for $400! There are SO many goliaths out there it makes no sense why they're protected. But if people are willing to pay $400 just for a chance to keep one it'll never open up.

If it was $100 a lot more people would buy tags, but not enough to hurt the population

Not $400. Not sure where you got that info. It's a $10 application fee and if you get drawn for the lottery it is $150 for Florida residents and $500 for non residents.

At $10 just to maybe be picked it's too much. At $150 for one 24-36 it's hysterically stupidly priced. $30 total for 5 fish 24-unlimted for say same number of potential harvesters would make it remotely OK. The Bruce cat in the upper cabinets is hysterical
@mattmatthew24407 ай бұрын
It shouldn't be $400,they should put a yearly limit per person like deer and turkey, back in the early 80s you could legally keep them and it was a good thing to get out of the fishing hole,they eat a lot of snapper.
