I remember hearing in a challenge run video that apparently the Kirby devs don't like seeing Kirby get hurt and try not to make the games too difficult because of this. Between DL2 and 64, I have every reason to believe this statement was made post-Sakurai. Because when I play those two and Great Cave Offensive, this is all I see.
