Thank you. Crane operators are not the most enthusiastic bunch and computers, like buttons, etc. are not their thing. I take no offense, as long as its helping some people.

Fantastic refresher. Drawing it out makes it FAR more understandable. They didn't do that in my class, which made it tough on everyone. I always wondered why there was an empty graph taking up half the page, but we never used it.

Is there any where else where I can pick up more load chart problems besides from Amazon?
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 3 жыл бұрын
@@pedrotorres3180 sorry for the late reply. The only other way I know of to get practice problems is take a test prep class. In most of the test prep classes they are only going to give you 8-12 practice problems. NCCCO does have some practice problems on their web site but last I looked there were only 4 problems. I think an operator needs a bunch of practice problems so they can build up their speed and see a lot of different variations. The problems on Amazon are mine and I've had good reports from people using them to prepare for their exams.

Thank you for responding. I take my exam for the core , the tll grove,and the lattice boom crawler on October 11th . Amazon said it would get to me just a day before my testing. I will probably just go ahead and buy it because I agree more practice is best.
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 3 жыл бұрын
@@pedrotorres3180 Amazon's delivery estimates are overly conservative. Even with standard shipping you should receive the practice problems within 5-7 days. If you pay for the expedited shipping you should get it within 3-4 days from when you place your order. If you order tomorrow (9/30) you should have the study materials by Monday the 5th. Maybe sooner. In any case good luck on your exams. Sounds like you are going to be busy on October 11.

when in doubt lift over rear corner most stable regardless . Never overload or go out to far. Keep load low and boom in as much as possible.

Better to never be in doubt. Good ground conditions, Know your load weight, know your charts (over the rear, or 360), pull a tape and know your maximum radius. Real world, for some companies, doubt is normal operations--LOL

By any means, do you know how to calculate the lifted load using pressure in the cylinder?
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 2 жыл бұрын
Good question but beyond the scope of this channel. That would never come up on an NCCCO certification exam. You should consult a more engineering oriented resource. A good engineering based text on cranes is "Cranes and Derricks" by Lawrence K. Shapiro and Jay P. Shapiro--but I don't believe they address the issue of hydraulic pressures associated with lifting capacities. Try contacting the manufacturer--they would be the best source but may not be willing to share the information.

Thank you for this explanation, specially on the Manitowoc, I was confuse with the Wire Rope count. and deducting only the excess Wire Rope to determine Net Capacity. I do have a question. where can I get Practice scenarios of this videos teaching?
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 5 жыл бұрын
Yea, it would be great if the wire rope method was the same for all exams. If you are looking for additional practice problems they are available to purchase on Amazon. There is a complete set of 42 problems with detailed explanations for the Manitowoc LBC and Grove TLL. That's 84 practice problems in all. I think more practice problems the better, but if you don't think you need all the problems you can buy partial sets. If interested go to Amazon and search for Load Chart Laboratory. Good luck getting ready for the exams and let me know if you have questions.

@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry I do not. I've had few requests and may eventually do some videos for the Manitex boom truck. I just have to find some time to put it all together. There are Manitex materials, including the load charts used for the exam and a few practice problems available at the NCCCO web site.
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
One more thing. The process is basically the same (Net Capacity = Gross Capacity - Deduction; Gross Load = Object weight + deductions. The deduction weights for implements would be different of course and I don't remember off the top of my head the Manitex rules for wire rope deductions. I'll do some searching and may be able to give you better info. I'm going to take a look a the charts, notes, and sample problems on the CCO site to see if I can come up with something a little more specific for you.
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
I took a quick look at the NCCCO sample load chart problems and the load charts. Here's what I learned: (1) there is no wire rope deductions --that makes things easier(2) If the crane is reeved with 3 or 4 parts line there will be a deduction for an auxiliary block (50 pounds) and the main load block (deduction weight listed in chart notes)(3) If the extension/Jib is stowed, the deduction weight is variable, based on the length of the main boom. This is all in the charts but here's what they are: 480 lb deduction at 26 ft main boom, 330 pounds at 38 ft. main boom, 260 lbs at 48 ft main boom, 220 lbs. at 58 ft., and 190 lbs at 68 ft. (4) Hose reel is an "add on" that you don't see with the grove. It is a 190 lb deduction when installed. (5) No lifts off the main boom when jib is erected.(6) When lifting off the jib and the main boom is not fully extended use the boom angle instead of radius for finding chart capacity (this is just like the Grove)Study the charts and notes and try the sample problems at the CCO web sites. Also if you have any buddies that have the boom truck certification you might see if they can give you any tips (I'm a lattice boom and large telescopic guy). Good luck.

Okay , now youve got me a little confused ...you say here dont deduct the weight of the jib if you are picking off it ?and those deductions are figured into jib Charts?
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
Correct.
@benrose8946
@benrose8946 6 жыл бұрын
So the only time to deduct the jib is when it is either stowed at 267 lbs ,or when jib is erected , and you are picking off main boom , at a 4,250 lb deuction not including rigging etc . Seems lifting off the main with the jib erected knocks a good percentage of net lift cap. ?This was sort of misleading in the Weight reductions for load handling Devices chart,,,leading me to want to deduct that 4,250 from all non jib stowed configurations ,however by time you deduct that 4,250 from some of the lifts off jib configuration a couple of stout Ironworkers could move the load by hand ? If I were a video makin kinda guy ,i would include a trick setup question like this and other trick picks ...Thanks for youre patience Ben
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
Ben . . . You are correct. Having the extension erected when lifting off the main boom does take a big chunk out of the crane's net capacity. Most of the time it is not a good idea to have the jib erected when lifting off the main. There are however some days when making multiple lifts, some off the main and some of the jib so then it makes sense to have the jib erected. I have posted a video showing a problem example, with the solution, where the jib is erected and not in use and the lift is being made off the main boom--here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqPIlHiCbN5rfqOIhis is a question variation that does sometimes show up on the CCO exams.

Okay ,how about this .... Grove TLL swing cab tele boom crane the question . What is gross capacity over the rear in this config . outriggers fully extended, 7,800 lb. c.Weight removable , main boom 77 ft. , main boom angle 0 degrees .radius n/a , Aux .boom head , stowed fixed ext. 15 ton 1 sheave ,2 parts line , 7.5 ton ball 10 ' below tip , 125 lbs. riggin ... I answered 2710 , w/ the info at the very bottom of chart stating @ 80' boom length and 0 degrees 2,710 , however I believe they are stating the answer is 2,830 ? I dont see it what did I miss ?
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben. I'm with you. If I was answering this question on the exam I would choose 2,710. Based on the CCO charts it is 2,710 at 77 ft boom (use 80 since 77 is not in the chart) and 0 degree angle. When I get a minute I'll look at it more closely, but this may be an error (or maybe I'm missing something also). Is this from a CCO exam you've taken or a practice question you've found somewhere? It doesn't happen often but there are occasions where the CCO puts a "bad" question on the exam. And I've seen a lot of "bad" practice questions--I even write a few bad questions myself occasionally LOL. I had an operator fail his specialty exam, but a week later CCO contacted him and said they had a bad question on the exam and when they threw it out he had a passing score.

How about this ... same crane Grove TLL , what is net cap. when lifting off main boom over side , here is the config. outriggers full x-tended, 7,800 lb. removable c.w. 68' main boom ,boom angle n/a ,radius 44 ' , Aux boom head installed , Stowed fixed extension 15 ton block 1,sheave 2 parts line , 7.5 ton ball 10 ' below tip , and 125 lbs. of rigging ... I figured 70 ' of boom at 45 ' radius , gives me a gross cap. of 13,600 , okay here are my deductions aux.boom head 143 lbs.,7.5 T ball 338, 10' line @ 10 lbs,,stowed jib @ 267 lbs. ,125 lbs. rigging and 15 t. 1 shv block w/ 2 lines 380 { heres the sticky part ,let me see if i can explain since I Ass u me that with all this rigging ,and knowing my winch cap. is 12,920 , and I will certainly be below that limit , I ass u me here , the 2nd line on the 15 t. block is not neccessary , so i want to deduct an extr 50' for the distance to boom tip , } I believe they are saying the correct answer is 12,337 , that would be correct if you had not deducted the extra 50 ' ...is it possible I have all the reject questions for practice sheets or what , why would you not deduct that extra 50 lbs
@benrose8946
@benrose8946 6 жыл бұрын
I believe , I may see the reasoning here , correct me if Im wrong I need to divide 13,600 by 12,920 , calculate line needed from the gross , do not return and figure line needed after calculating the deductions of the rigging etc which equals roughly 1.0526315 telling me one line is not enuff , therefore neccessatating the 2nd line , and it will not be deducted ... I guess what Im saying is since the net load is under 12,920 I saw the extra line as needing deducted ...Silly Grove engineers , Im still trying to figure out how you run a 2 part block w/ one line ...the other line should not be extra , perhaps the Grove boys n gals in the future will figure some of the extras into the 85% and call it a day ???
@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
12,337 would be the correct net capacity with this set up. You did everything right except for the wire rope deduction. There is no extra wire rope to deduct. When determining if there is extra wire rope to deduct take you gross capacity (13,600) and divide it by the line pull for a single part line (12,920). When you do this it comes out to 1.05 and indicates that one part of line is not enough to lift up to the gross capacity. To utilize the full gross capacity you have to have at least two parts line and since you are reeved with 2 parts line there will not be any extra to deduct. Here is another example. Let's say you're reeved with 4 parts line and your gross capacity is 34,000 pounds. Divide 34,000 by 12,920. This comes out to 2.6--you need three parts line to handle a lift up to the gross capacity of 34,000. You are reeved with 4, 1 extra, so you will have to deduct the weight for one part of line. Example 2: If you have 4 parts line and the gross capacity is 48,000, do the same thing. 48,000/12,920 = 3.7. 4 parts of line are necessary. Your are set up with 4 parts so there will not be any extra deduct.Last example: you have 5 parts line, gross capacity 38,000. 38,000/12,920=2.9. You need 3. You have 5, so the weight of 2 parts line will have to be deducted. Wire rope deduction is probably the most confusing part of load chart problems. Hang in there. Hope this helps.

@LoadChartLab
@LoadChartLab 6 жыл бұрын
There really aren't any good practice questions on line at this time. The CCO web site has three for the Grove TLL. I am thinking about putting some of my materials up for sale on Amazon. I have three sets of 14 for the Grove (total of 42 practice load chart problems and solutions). If you send me an email address I will send you a set of 14 questions, at no charge. All that I ask is you give me you input on whether they are helpful, is it something crane operators may be willing to purchase, and what I might be able to change to make them more helpful to crane operators preparing for CCO exams. I would also request that you not share them all over the internet. I also have practice load chart problems for the Manitowoc LBC if you're a lattice boom operator.
