I found that using a self watering planter ended my browning problems. With a good self watering planter you have even amounts of moisture in the soil as long as you keep water in the planter reservoir. I also use reverse osmosis or distilled water on them. They hate most fertilizers but do very well with worm castings in the soil. I have mine under a grow light. They do not do well without a decent amount of light.
