timely since I did not know about waiting before replanting.

So many southeastern and eastern Kentucky elderly gardeners have done this before my days. I can remember it from when I was 6 years old, now I am 55 and need to follow suit. Well now I know why. Thanks.

Grandpa had prunes, walnuts, and apricots. In the winter, he always had mustard growing. He just let them grow to partial seed (green but some seeds formed), then plowed them under. They came up every spring on que. The Italians would be out there getting greens. That was back in the early 50's. Now I grow mustard greens for the winter, delicious and healthy!

now i'm wondering if that was the reason the old timers in the country would plow moth balls into the ground where they planted tomatoes,great video.

I just turned mine over two days ago in Oklahoma. Last nice day to work in the garden for awhile. Also took my soil samples. Very small gardens so it was easy. The nematodes just wrecked me last year. Sure hope it helps

I am 45 years old and always paid pretty close attention to what my dad, uncles, and grandfathers did. All the ol’timers down here in sunny but sandy Florida always grew a big stand of mustards every winter. Way more than they could ever eat or sell lol! They planted by tilling, broadcasting, and just scratchin’em in with a leaf rake. Whatever didn’t get ate, preserved, or sold/given away got tilled in and usually because mustard was such cheap seed it always looked like the plot was never harvested even!😂

Looking forward to how you chop and till them in. I have raised beds and not sure how I am going to “till” the mustard I planted in🤷🏻♀️

I would use a weed eater and then use a two tine small tiller. I have Daikon Radish planted this year so it will break up our clay soil. Plus my cabbage will be going in our raised beds by Valentines Day.

If you don't have a garden weasel claw, I highly recommend one for this purpose and also weed removal.

Happy New Year Hoss the Boss man. Great video. I see you are going to do a follow-up. If you do please address this question. During the winter the RKN are dormant, so it would seem that the mustard gas would be most effective when the soil has warmed up to at least 65 to 70 degrees. Is this a factor to consider?

Great point. Yes, fall or a spring would be best to work the biofumigant into the soil. Greg

no, that is way to early. Corn needs to be direct planted. Check out our corn growing guide. growhoss.com/blogs/growing-guides/corn?_pos=1&_psq=%20corn%20growing&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Currently killing Bermuda grass and weeds, I tilled and covered with silage tarp about a week ago. Not sure if it would be in my best interest to plant a cover crop right now. Any thoughts on this?
@gardeningwithhoss10 ай бұрын
Bermuda grass is dormant in the winter. A cover crop will work fine now. You will probably have to tarp again in warmer weather to control the Bermuda grass.
