@@petersmith8093 have they produced fruit yet? I've done this in the past (before quarantine) and the plants grew big but never produced fruit. I figured it was because they had been genetically modified or something.

@@petersmith8093 I tried growing tomatoes and chillies from seed. I got my first saplings in 4-5 days. In next 4-5 days the saplings grew to around 2-3 inches. But since then, in next 8-10 days, the saplings have not grown even 1 cm. Also out of 12-15 saplings, 3-4 have already fallen down. And seems others are also weak and may fall down soon. Thank you!! I gardening for about 5 years in containers in my small backyard. I became kinda addicted to seeing how much food I could produce. I was able to feed my family of 4 veggies from our own backyard for the entire year. We also gave plenty away. We also have a very short growing season but that challenge just made it more fun to figure out. The first year I used my own compost we discovered what we call “Volunteer” veggies. We ended up growing all sorts of things that we ended up eating or canning and giving away that just grew from our trash basically. It’s pretty fun, delicious and saves us money. I’m gonna try this and then transplant them into those upside down tomato things. I have like 5 of them. Then I’m gonna hang them indoors in the windows. Thanks for the video.

@cecileb83324 жыл бұрын
@@poojavijay1346 hi, so basically I put like 5 slices of cherry tomato in a pot, and I got about 50 plants of tomatoes from that experience! Mine were very slow because my garden wasn't ready to receive them. So they stayed in the pot a few months without growing more and/or producing tomatoes. It stayed at the stage of "baby plant" due to the lack of space. So I don't think I'm the right person to ask about. I think if my garden was ready in time I would have had tomatoes much faster. I tried this like 2 days ago and I'm really hopeful. I'm attempting to start a garden, but I'm having a lot of trouble, anyone that sees this can you please tell me some tips to help! Thanks!!!!!👍👍👍
@urbangardeningofficial7 жыл бұрын
keep the soil moist all the time but not soggy ....keep the pot in partial shade for better result....transplant them into individual pots or into ground after they are 5-6 inches tall ..plant them as deep as possible as their stems tend to develop roots ..good luck ..:) happy gardening

Urban Gardener thank you so much for responding with such good tips. Perfect timing too, because they are now all 2 inches tall and I was wondering when to plant them in individual pots. 😊 PS:you just earned a subscriber👍👍👍👍👍

Hello, I planted tomatoes a month ago following your videos! It grew a lot of seedlings just like yours! :) As we only can transplant a few seedlings to a big pot, may I know what to do with the rest of the seedlings or do we just dispose the rest? Sorry, as this is my first time trying gardening and I'm unsure about a lot of things. Thank you so much for your videos!! :)

Thank you very much for your detailed guide. I am excited to try this out at home! I like in a colder climate, so I am curious to see if can get any tomatoes without a greenhouse.

I use to eat a plum & spit out the seed as I walk down my drive way. As I look at the tree every morning , it reminds me of my habit.

dont waste a good tomato eat the tomatoes after you scrape the seeds out.... tomatoes have a gel around the seed that needs to ferment to break down, this gel has anti sprouting properties so until the gel ferments or decays the seed will not sprout. scrape out seeds toss them in a glass with slightly less water in volume let them ferment to get rid of the gel for about 5 days rinse them well and plant. you will get more plants sprout from seeds then planting a slice of tomato . warning if you use a tomato from store that is not a heritage or heirloom tomato dont expect to get the same taste and character from any you grow most sold in stores are hybrids and wont produce the same plant
@stefanpalickimusic4 жыл бұрын
I just did exactly what you've described with some overripe Kumatos. They are little sprouts as we speak! I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up and for them to get a little bigger and I will plant them.
@DMPB-fi2ir4 жыл бұрын
@@stefanpalickimusic be aware Kumatos may not grow and produce the same tomato as the one you used too get seeds out of due to it being a cultivar ( hybrid ) i'm not sure how genetically stable that one is as a cultivar i know its been out now about 14 years since the first cross roughly so it will be interesting to hear what comes out for tomato style

I just put my seeds in water...I wondered why I had to go thru this step. You answered!!! I bought a delicious organic heirloom tomato at the store. I don't like raw tomatoes...but this one was so delicious I want to try and grow my own!!
@beckyleeringles88414 жыл бұрын
can you keep the seeds until next spring to start tomato plants then?~~My neighbor grows the most delicious tomatoes and the ones I get at farmers market aren't as good I wish I new the name of the good tomato

In my experience with tomatoes this would only work with heirloom tomatoes like Pink Brandywine or Black Russian Prince. Many varieties of tomatoes are hybrids and the seeds will not necessarily produce a plant yielding the same kind of tomato. Also when you go to separate out seedlings you will need to be very delicate with them until you know what you're doing.
