I totally agree! Even though our growing conditions are different, growing in containers it levels the playing field a bit. I'll be 68 in a couple of days & my arthritis is holding me back from my old garden method of in-ground gardening. I have been container gardening for the past few years, but all of Robbie's tip & tricks *** and making your own soil *** GENIUS!!! I ordered 4 20-gallon growing bags & put them out on sileage tarp & started filling them this morning. We had a terrible wind go through a couple of mornings ago, & I had plenty of sticks, leaves & other things to fill them with. I save the brown paper packing I get in packages & shred it. I added some of that & toilet paper rolls also. I had some weird squash come up in my compost pile that has taken over an entire part of my yard, but those leaves are the most amazing compost additive ever! And my son collects the bizarre squash & feeds them to his worms. Thank you for all of your inspiration, Robbie! God Bless!!!

What a concept.Instead of tree roots growing up into my containers, I have zucchini roots growing up in my container. Works for me.

I'm depressed. My garden isn't producing like it did at my old house. When I saw your Zuch leaves, I teared up. Mine are literally the size of the palm of my hand. Maybe the monsoon rains in AZ will perk them up. Have a great day.

Thank you Robbie ❣️this is a great idea 💡 I do the layering even with the small pots. I've never thought about that. My round zucchinis are in smaller pots cause I didn't have any big container left. I will put smaller pots on the top loading them this way. I also have some tomato plants in big pots and I've plant in here so e basil too. This will help these tomatoes to spread their roots more and the earthworms will be happy too❤️ We are having a massive heatwave here....no rain. I think that my plants ate starting strangling with all that heat.... I water my plants everyday now. Thank you for the idea Robbie. I think this will boost our plants and help them❣️❣️❣️ Be safe and stay cool my friend ❤️🌟❤️

Oh this works great for fast growing plants like zucchini or any squash that get a big root system for fast production, adds extra nutrients, space and great for extra water stored for the plants near by. You take care and stay cool, they are now saying we could be here about a 100 degrees F all week, so we will see. I planted more zucchini seedlings tonight, and a bunch of cucumber seedlings are growing in the totes in this heat. You take care, and Thank You for the Super Thanks! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I think you will like this method, easy and fast. I have been dropping open bottom pots ( or with very large holes) all over here in different totes, if there is room 😊❤️

I just purchased three tomatoes and variegated thyme on clearance today. The tomatoes won't survive the winter outside here. BUT I have a sunny spare room and I can take cuttings during the winter for the plants I need in spring. I don't need many for the varieties I bought. I'll grow most from seed. Oh, and I got a chocolate mint plant! It's so good!! Great video! Now I have more pots I need to fill lol

Great idea and new to me. Many thanks! I garden in containers and raised bed and a bit of a failed experiment of a corn and sunflower grow area in native desert soil. Have to heavily amend if I do native soil grow again next year. I only fertilized organically but only twice. Just poor soil. The veggies in pots did OK when the weather was cooler. Temps 105-109 for over a week straight was tough even when I watered daily and had some shade. Again thanks for the unique and good idea.

I have an odd question for you, do you water with a hose or do you water with a watering can?
@lindawoody8501 Жыл бұрын
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Hose. Mostly I try hard to be conservative but in the terrible heat I did get freer with my watering. I also plan mulch but have not done it yet. Drip may be in the future too. I do try.

I have been doing that for years but I use the one gallon restaurant size cans as they rest they put a little iron in the soil and periodically I take a knife and run up and down the side With the blade facing towards the center of the can to cut the roots so they're not so root bound because I cannot get any bigger pots

Big, green tomato horn worms on my plants that are in containers on chairs on my deck.
@jwater63 Жыл бұрын
I had a few horn worms at the beginning of the season, and they are so hard to find until they get big. Then I never saw any more, but was noticing birds in my tomato plants, so I am guessing they are getting the horn worms.

My containers are not holding moisture so wondering what can I do? The water drains out so quick and dries out by end of the day so pls help. I was thinking about adding vermiculite
@KarenEstes1295 Жыл бұрын
I've had plants struggling with the heat +/or dropping soil levels. I sprinkled some of the clay kitty litter around on the top then covered it with potting soil. Seems like the clay would hang onto the water. I'll try this backwards planting as well.
@msfullroller Жыл бұрын
My soil level had dropped down quite a bit in my containers, so I added some vermiculite to some more of my potting mix and added that to my pots to get the soil level back up. That helped and I have also very recently started watering twice a day. But even before I started watering twice a day, I have not had any of my plants wilting in the hot afternoon/early evening Sun. For the pots I hadn't got to yet, I'm gonna do the same thing above and also try Robbie's method. And for the pots I've already added more soil to, I'll just sit a pot on top and not sink it into the soil. Why? I can't because the feeder roots have already gone into that "top" soil that I added a few weeks ago. 😊 I mentioned this to show what Robbie is showing us here will work. Hope that helps and good luck!
