For those who have a small water volume and wish to allow the pH to drift or fluctuate between 5.7-6.2 you can set the target pH at 6.2 and then over dose so it drops to 5.7 and it will not dose again until it hits 6.2.

So I have to set it so that it doses 0.1ml, but it does it in half doses to get there? Why not just make it dose once and then have a delay timer? It's not like it will adjust the dose based on what it found the end result to be..that just makes it more likely to be wrong. I'm assuming that's just the earliest it can dose again... But that doesn't really Mena it won't overshoot... If it hits 5.9ph it's still above 5.8 so it's going to drop me to 5.7ph... So I basically have to find out how much I need to dose 0.2ml from a starting point of 5.8ph...and see how many minutes it takes to get to 6.0ph. Doesn't sound like a smart device... It just has a delay and trigger...

@growell4 жыл бұрын
If you are using Bluelab pH down (35% Phosphoric) you can use it neat. However if using another brand of pH down we suggest checking the acid percentage (e.g. if 80%) you can dilute it with water. Though you must still set your doser using the instructions so that it doses correctly, and and only adjusts your tanks pH by 0.1.

You don’t need to monitor the pH of your water tank as the pH shouldn’t really change compared to the nutrient tank. So you'd be fine with just one pH Controller monitoring your nutrient tank.

Will this work on an Autopot system with a tank that just drains down or will it overdose
@growell3 жыл бұрын
This will work in a tank that drains down, as it'll constantly monitor the pH and only dose when required. Also as it only doses in small increments before measuring and dosing again you shouldn't have to worry about the reduced volume of liquid in the tank causing the controller or over dose.

How do you change it back to ph 7 after calibration as I don’t want it ph 4
@growell2 жыл бұрын
Once the pH Controller is calibrated you don't have to change any settings, it should just give accurate pH readings in your solution tank. Calibration is used to ensure the probe is giving accurate readings, not set it to either a 7 or 4 mode.

how long since it was calibrated - what temperature was your calibrating solution at)? what is the temperature of the solution at measuring? has the probe ever dried out? do you wash your probe off EVERY single time you use it then replace the cap making sure it stays always damp? if you answered no to any of these replace thge probe.

So use PH Up with this or PH Down? How does it know if it is PH UP or PH Down that you are using? Great Video!!
@growell4 жыл бұрын
You would use pH Down which is an acid. In most Hydro systems the pH will creep up so you use pH down to keep the pH level stable. If you wanted to use pH Up there is a setting on the controller where you tell it whether you are dosing with pH Up or pH Down.
@rory20014 жыл бұрын
Looks great! I was taught in my food science degree that pH will drift if not celebrated regularly though, is that not a problem here?
@growell4 жыл бұрын
The pH Controller will continue to take readings and dose if necessary, so even if your pH drifts the controller will bring it back to the pH level that you've set.
@rory20014 жыл бұрын
@@growell Thanks for the reply! I am sorry i explained my question poorly. What i meant was i thought the pH probe needs to be re-calibrated (with pH 4, 7, 10 control solution etc) regularly or the probe itself will drift and report an untrue reading. Is this not applicable to this system? Thanks!
@growell4 жыл бұрын
We would recommend that you re-calibrate the probe roughly every 30 days, this is a good opportunity to clean the probe as well. Additionally remember to soak the probe in KCL solution when not in use to ensure it keeps providing accurate readings.

I just got one of these for use in a hydroponics setup in a 5 gal bucket. Can anyone tell me how much I need the machine to dose to keep it in the correct PH range? It did not come with any charts... I am also assuming that I can drill a hole in the top of the PH container and put the feeding tube inside and the solution wont dry out? I'm using the general hydroponics PH down.
@growell2 жыл бұрын
There isn't a set amount of pH down that'll adjust the pH in your 5gal bucket by a certain amount. Best case is to take a pH reading then slowly add pH down until you know how much pH down is needed to adjust your tanks pH by 0.1. Note the amount of ml needed and use that to work out your dosing time on the controller. In this video James goes over the maths for dosing times at 7:08. Drilling a hole into the top of your pH container shouldn't let it dry out.
