Came over from Jules. Nice to meet you! We're going to start small this coming spring but may be planting garlic in there, too.

Hello and nice to meet you as well! Starting small is the way to go! You can always increase your plantings as time goes on... my garden gets bigger every year I think. Take care & thanks for visiting my channel!

I planted some elephant garlic I got from our city market here in Kansas City last fall-not sure when to harvest it, though. When do you suggest digging it up?
@GrowfullywithJenna2 жыл бұрын
For elephant garlic I follow the same harvest timing as my regular garlic, I share the cues I look for here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6CQpoCufb9lm5Y

Hello! I am a young beginner farmer and I really hope you can give me some tips on how to get started on farming. I have seen your clay soil video and it was really helpful because my garden has that sort of problem! Please reply soon. Blackbird
@GrowfullywithJenna3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I'm so glad to hear that you have decided to farm! The best advice I can give you is to focus on the soil. If you get your soil right everything else pretty much falls into place! After that, I'd recommend connecting with whatever local organization you have that is dedicated to helping small farmers. I'm not sure where you're located, but in my area we have OEFFA www.oeffa.org/ and SARE www.sare.org/ as 2 examples. There are also SO many great books on the topic. Check out "The Market Gardener" by Jean-Martin Fortier for starters. I hope this helps and wish you the very best of luck on your journey. Take care!

What type of fertilizer do you use for the 2 times you fertilize? Do you have a favorite store or website you purchase from? Thank you :)
@GrowfullywithJenna2 жыл бұрын
I generally use Garden’s Alive brand of fertilizers. I actually have been using their lawn fertilizer on my garlic for the first feeding, as it’s a bit higher in nitrogen. For the second feeding I’ve been using their Onions Alive fertilizer.

I’m wanting to preorder garlic to plant this fall. Any favorite varieties that you’ve planted here in 6A and 6B? Thinking hard neck would produce more than soft neck here too. Any favorite sources to purchase would help! 🧄Garlic newbie here!🧄
@GrowfullywithJenna2 жыл бұрын
This year I had great results with Northern White, Music, Chesnok Red and Leningrad. This is particularly notable, because it was a very stressful spring for garlic here! And yes- in general I have better results with hardneck varieties.

Jenna Can I jyst place garlic on the ground and cover with compost and a mulch
@GrowfullywithJenna Жыл бұрын
It does depend on your growing conditions/soil type- but in my area the garlic would likely frost heave if I planted this way.
