Growing a beard at as a teenager can be a difficult thing to do. You'll need to be patient as all guys will develop beards at different points in their life. For instance, I didn't really start growing my beard as a teen. It wasn't until my late 20's and early 30's that I started growing a long beard. I know it's not the best answer for when you want to grow a beard really bad, but it's the reality. Trying to do something to accelerate beard growth is not a good idea.
Stick to what you can control and look at your family history for indication as to how your beard will come in. You can also look to see how many thin blonde hairs as a lot of those will convert into terminal hairs which will be the curly beard hair that grows.
Some tips during the process are to:
1) Grow what you go - shave off the areas of your beard which haven't come fully in yet.
2) Don't compare yourself to others - Everyone is different and it's best to embrace your own uniqueness
3) Be patient - your beard will get better with time
4) Don't be drastic - Don't use rogaine, beard plugs or other "unnatural" beard growing techniques

I applaud this young man. Too many teens fall for the trap when they get their first free razor in the mail when they reach shaving age. We must teach our sons so one day they will teach their sons this lesson: "when I was 12 my father taught me how to be a man. He took me into the bathroom, picked up a razor, and ate it".

I'm 17 and an aspiring beard grower! I have some gnarly sideburns that go down to my jaw line, I've been able to grow these and a little mustache since I was 15. Watching your videos has encouraged me to grow what I got to see my progress, and I like what I see so far! My sideburns are starting to spread across my cheeks a little bit, and I have a patch of nice chin hair that's starting to trickle down my neck. I've never really allowed my moustache to grow, but I definitely do see progress now that I've put down the razor! Looking in the mirror I can see the little gold hairs all around my face, which I hope will turn into terminal hairs giving me the thick, coarse, long and wooly beard I desire! I'm 21 yo and I have been lucky to have been blessed with a thick, full, long beard which I have had it since I was 18-19 yo. My friend, whom is my age, hasn't been so lucky and unfortunately can't grow squat. It's completely random and if you are a teenager you shouldn't worry too much about how much beard you can grow just yet. My moustache is rather weak in comparison to the rest of my beard, but I'm only 21 and I have faith that it will thicken over time.

Julian Den Hamer You're still pretty young, man. Your best bet is to just give your beard more time. A lot of guys (myself included) don't see their beards really fill in and develop until their 20's or so. Just be patient and see how your beard develops as time goes on! -Zach

I started growing my beard at 16, but it was super patchy. A year later at 17, my beard was super full for my age although i left my facial hair short. I am of middle eastern decent so I guess it might be genetics. But honestly patience is key when it comes to growing facial hair, even when every high schooler had no facial hair I wore it proudly. sharing my beard story here: So i'm 19 and i've been growing out my beard since the past 2 months. I haven't shave, only in the neck line to keep it clean. Most of my relatives don't grow their beards except for my uncle, he has a very thick and full beard, and that's how it's been growing for me since i started to let it grow. Future is looking nice for me, i had some areas without hair like the bottom of my chin and at the sides of my lips but those are mostly gone now. This taught me patience, and it's getting better everyday.

Thanks for making this video, i'm blonde so naturally all through high school and a couple of years after i was pretty down about my beard growing abilities. Then a couple of years after high school i decided just to let it grow and see what happens, it took a few months of 'your beard sucks' 'you can't grow a beard' *looks at your beard, laughs* but eventually it just happened. It works out in the end. Don't let people put you down about it, because if a guy has a beard and puts you down for trying to get one too, he's an ass. True men appreciate and applaud any effort to grow a beard. Videos like these give a lot of hope to people, so just stick in and knuckle down, give it a few months and watch videos like these for support if you need it! :)

This was reall good for me. I'm 19 now. I started bearding at 16. I've. Got a thick full beard that's about 3 inches long, but here's the thing, my mustache sucks, and the hair on the higher bits of my cheeks and on the front of my chin are still thinner and lighter. And true, I'm blessed to have what I do have at my age, I've always been comparing my beard to others, often men who were even older than myself. And it's always made me feel self conscious about my work in progress beard. Not to mention, I always get teased because I have blond-brown hair and a super red ginger beard like an Irishman. But what you said helped. I'll try harder not to compair myself to others, especially those older than myself. And I'll be patient. Thanks man! Love your videos, they're a God send! Beard on!

My dad can grow a thick beard, but at 17 I can only slightly grow hair on my upper lip and on my chin. I could count the hairs I grow so I've always been worried I'll never be able to grow a beard, but seeing your pictures from when you couldn't grow a "good" beard really made me feel more hopeful that I'll be able to grow one in time.

Way back in 1991 I was 20 going on 21 I couldn't grow a beard if I tried. I had an invisible mustache bit of hair on the end of the chin and bits of hairs around the jaw line back then. Now at 53 I have a full thick beard. Some men can grow a good one when they reach late 20s. Happened to me.

Really interesting seeing how much facial hair you had when you were younger. My facial hair at 23 looks almost the same as yours did at 26 which I'm semi happy with but still a bit envious of people with thicker beards. I used to keep it to about 4mm growth but grew it out during quarantine and found that I have enough hair to grow a decent beard. Hopefully it'll continue to get thicker.

I'm 19 now and have been able to grow a chinstrap since I was 16, I used to get told it was ugly and made me look older but now that I've let it grow out to just about 4 inches long, I love it. Beardbrand Erik: I have found the greatest joy in my "mentee". I got a young guy also from Brazil. We found each other, and we talk about beards, but it is really about life. He visited me in the States last year for a month, and I will go to Brazil to visit him this year, and then we will go visit the wine region of Brazil, and then Mendoza. I am taking a 2 year viticulture class at Texas Tech in Fredericksburg, but he and I will take the oenology class together beginning in the fall. It is a Father/son thing more than anything else. So I get your joy. I love my mentee. And it is truly worth it, when you see the difference in his life. But I still like your style, and look. You are so primo.

I'm 47 now but when I was 11 I had a full beard that I could grow. I was the only student in elementary school with a beard. The male students were jealous and the female students just adored my beard. That was back in 1981. I looked old enough to pull beer from the bar.

I'm 19 and still can't grow a full beard, while my ex-classmates all had a full one. Thank god I don't have a peach-fuzz, my facial hair is actually really really scruffy (my father's blood line heritage) and hard to shave so I always keep a stubble of a couple of days (or even a week), but I actually tried to grow it in summer and I had a strange growth (mustache, goatee, soul patch, mutton chops are there, on my face, but they're not bond together). So I took confidence with my beard and I'm waiting for a full one to grow. Sorry for the long post, what I meant is: your video is an inspiration, because your beard is so majestic but it wasn't always like that, so I'm hopeful right now. I remember shaving since i was 11 and having a full beard at age 13. Never grew it out long at that time though, but it was perfectly filled out, never patchy. The other kids were envious with their 3 strands of chin hair lmao. Thanks Grandpappy for the genetics

My beard grew sort of patchy when I was a freshman towards the end of high school I got the sort of full beard look except my cheek line were very weak. I grew it out mid- November and decided to let grow all winter. After coming back from Winter break I was recognized by my whole classmates. One girl (my current girlfriend for four years) commented, "What did you do over winter break? Live in a cabin or smoething!" I was very proud of it and loved it until I noticed beard dryness. I shaved it and never grew it back until I found out about Beard oils, Balms, and combs. I still had weak cheak lines in college, not until I was 22 did I notice that my beard was getting thicker, but as my beard grew, my hairline started receding. Now I sport a full beard and have a small patch like Jack and Greg on the cheeks. I am 23, but I think it's still growing, so don't give up you still have time. ( I have experimented with minoxidil, but I don't use it twice a day. I use it occasionally once a day or none at all. I am using it to fill my patches, but I only used one bottle and haven't even finished the second, due to my beard already looking full. There is no need, because I have a feeling that it will fill over time. Just be patient and wait it will come. )

Great tips. Regarding family and genetics, I agree that it's probably your best indicator, but keep in mind that it's not set in stone. My brother and I have almost opposite hair genes. I grow a full beard but my hairline is receding and thinning up top, and my brother has a baby face even at 26 yet has insanely full and thick hair on his head. Like you said Eric, patience is key. You just have to wait and see what you end up with and do your best with that.

Didn't used to grow very well on my cheeks but it's much better theses days! been growing facial hair for the last 3 years probably and it definitely looks better now than it did back then! I'm still hoping my moustache grows better though and that it eventually connects to my beard! I'm using some oils on my beard at the moment so hopefully that helps!

I will like to reflect on my commitment to grow and nurture my beard to a thicker and at least ten inch long beauty. I have chosen to commit myself to this task not out laziness like most of the unmanly whelps will preach you, But out of the need to be and look like a better man ( not saying I am not). “If the high one put a beard on on my face then it my duty to grow it” that has kept me from grabbing the razor and reducing myself back into a child every morning like the society of these day would have young lads do. The beard is natures way of separating the Man from the Child the Alpha from the Beta!. So I without any doubt employ everyone capable of it to grow it and make their ancestors proud. This has affected my life quite contrary to what the popular conception would be, when I walk the streets or school hallways I need not ask for respect for my beard demands it!. I receive the praise of my comrades and it adds to my individual personality not forgetting it enhances the intimidation effect and that of holding knowledge. Although not jet the true beard I will have one day it brings me Pride! and forbid ye say it hath cometh without struggle. for a struggle it has been to endure the itching that claws at your skin in the beginning, let alone the empty bleats of overly conservative relatives prompting the belie image it gives. But when I see myself in the near future looking like the lion heart mixed with Gimli I forget the itching and wave off the old goats because you don't cut a sapling before it's grown, nay you let grow into a mighty oak!

Great video! being a teenager there are all sorts of pressures that teens face, and it oten results in them trying to conform to the social standards that they are presented with. This year was currently my first year of college and as I arrived on campus, many of the students that were males had pretty decent beards. When I worked up the confidence and swallowed my pride to ask them how they maintain such a great beard they often gave their beard about a a month and a half to grow. So I tried that and after the time period elapsed, i have still yet to fill in most of the patches that I had. Soon enough I though I just wasnt meant to grow a beard. Nearly all of the adult males in my family have thick voluminous beards and it would piss me off that i had literally pubes growing on my face. However, after watching your video, i really need to commit to growing a beard and taking care of it while not comparing myself people who are older than me because they have had the opportunity to grow their beards to such lengths. Because of your video I will give my beard about 2-3 months to grow and see if my patchy spots clear up. Considering my genetics, I do have thick beard in my blood but I should focus on growing it maintaining it because everyones beard grows at different rates. Thank you for clarifying this mystery and the myths surrounding beards. Also, when I was reading a forum there were many people who were saying that masturbation could lead to inhibition of beard growth. Do you believe in this or do you have a different take on this. I would love to hear your opinion on this. I know its a weird topic, but i was wondering if you would know the answer by any chance

A well-maintained facial hair looks good and could give characteristic to the face. As a 16 years old mine grows about 1,5 cm per month however it's dark and thick at my sideburns and jawline I'll still shave it regulary until my facial hair become thicker on my upper cheeks. I hope one day I could grow an almost as awesome beard as yours.

Its not so much age -- When I was 14 I was able to grow (at a medium rate) facial hair, but I just stuck with a goatee and shaved. When I was 15 I decided I wanted to grow it out, within 3 months I had significant facial hair. After 6 months, full beard. Its genetics aswell as your lifestyle. I would be at the gym before school, jog to school rain or snow. Then once school let out head right to the gym again, thus my testosterone levels were high. Being mature for my age, I hung out with high school seniors up to collage juniors, their faces when they found out my age were priceless.
