I had tried growing apples from see, but when the tree went dormant 2 years in it never woke up and died.. Definitely have to try it again... Your trees are doing amazing! Keep up the great work Rob!

Sally Jackson I thinned then down to 1-3 apples per cluster, except the one with 5. I only removed the runt. I may take one more off. Thanks again Sally!

Another win! I can't stand it when people say you won't get fruit from seeds. You can. It may not be the same, but it can happen. They're true mood killers lol
@Skitdora20105 ай бұрын
Lack of pollinators and poor soil could prevent flowering and fruit and then there are required chill hours. Even grafted shipova are said to take over a decade before they fruit. Some people report things fruiting after 20 years, grapefruit for instance, grown from seed. Best self-declared experts are those with no experience and next best have limited.

Very nice, Rob. Even if they're crab apples it's still cool how well they're doing and fruit that fast is even more impressive.

Yes Rob it looks normal at this early in season. If your soil is healthy you will see those fruits mature and enlarge throughout the summer. I wish you all the best!

Rob, that is a killer pool.👍

Very cool, I'll look forward to seeing the results! The twin tower thing can be a problem. Those tight crotches will trap bark between the two trunks which can cause splitting and failure later in the life of the tree.

SkillCult I know. I've been contemplating cutting one off for a few years... I'm just scared that it'll die if I do it when it's young.
@SkillCult6 жыл бұрын
It's actually safer for the tree to do it when it's young. The smaller cut will heal faster. There shouldn't be any other issue with removing growth when the tree is young. They are evolved to withstand a lot of munching by browsing animals and to be able to bounce back.

Hi, from what I researched, apple buds will form into 5 blossoms, and from there it is best to thin the blossoms down to two in order to provide better future crops. I do recommend pruning your trees when you get the chance. I recommend a pyramid shape as it will open the branches to allow sunlight and air for the next spring. I dwarfed my apple tree since I am short. Also, get rid of any branches low to the ground as it will attract unwanted pets to munch on. Good luck!

Hey rob, I was wondering if you’ll ever get a blueberry plant or do a blueberry from seed series. I think it would be really cool to see! The only problem might be your Texas summer heat and getting acidic soil.

Hmm, looks like you may have some granny smith apples. They'll likely stay pretty green. They should get larger, but will likely not get full size this year. We'll see if my predictions come true. You should be able to eat them once fall comes nonetheless.
@RobBackyardGardenerr6 жыл бұрын
Tyrell Samuels I'm super excited to see what they do. I am curious if they'll stay green though. I agree about size. The tree is too small to produce regular sized fruit for sure. Either way, I hope they taste great.

Im a little confused as to if the term crab apple means a nonedible apple or if its an actual variety. Im from Newfoundland, Canada and our crab apples are alot larger than the ones you've shown, mostly green and very much edible.
@RobBackyardGardenerr6 жыл бұрын
Kristan Strickland yeah. I'm using at a term for inedible - small and bitter. Most crab apples here in Texas are red, small and bitter but great for pollinating.
