I've grown blackberries for years and wondered if they could be grown in containers - which in my mind offered numerous advantages - especially if your yard is highly shaded. You could move the pot around to catch the sun during different parts of the season, more easily prune the plant, conserve water, and eliminate weeds. Easier to protect from birds and other varmints too! Can't wait to try this! Your tip about picking blackberries and when to tell the are ripe? Golden! It makes a big difference in flavor in my experience. An excellent and informative video!

Thanks this was really helpful! I just picked up a dozen bare root plants: four Natchez, four triple crown and four prime ark traveler. I'm going to plant them in containers tomorrow. It's still very cold here but plan on fertilizing then in the late Feb-March timeframe. They'll stay in containers for the first year and then will be planted next fall on the ground with a trellis

FINALLY I know when they are ripe to pick! This is our second year. Mine were huge, black, shiny and so tempting to pick but invariably we'd pick them too soon and while some were sweet, most were sour! Tried all kinds of experiments to discover when to pick. It was a hit or miss. Our raspberries were easy, the cap loosens off the core when they are ripe. Blackberries don't do that. now I know to wait until they lose their sheen. Thanks!

Yet another FABULOUS video!!! I am SO thankful I found your channel! I live in Northern Santa Barbara County, but might be moving to San Luis Obispo County soon - AND, if so, living amongst wildlife! I would LOVE a video on how to garden both vegetables/fruits/flowers when living in a VERY rural area - sometimes visited by deer, raccoons, turkeys, mountain lions, squirrels, gophers, and many more! I know you may not have any experience in this, but this could be an area you research and cover in your videos! I'd watch! ;)

I just planted, my first attempt and didn't water the roots, but did water the soil and it did drain... fingers crossed and live down south and get plenty of sun so let's see. I'll keep you posted and have to get some of this "Fruit tree fertilizer" and probably use it two weeks after since I'm so late on this....
