Peter Beale rose gardens are beautiful as well. Well worth a visit!

I love you guys! Best podcast of the week. Tony defeated by bean slicer technology!! Bean goes in crossways sideways and the bit you were pulling with your finger( and not meant to) moves in and out with varying thicknesses of beans. Don’t twist it.

😂😂😂😂I’ve been using that for my beans for 15yrs it’s absolutely brilliant 😂 you’re a star Tony xxxx

We sherd red cabbage and pickle it with tomatoes for the winter in jars. This salad is mixed with mayonnaise and served with red meat. Yummy.

Hey Tony, one way we like to use our cabbage (usually it's a white cabbage) is finely shredded and layered up with sliced potatoes and browned lamb mince, do a few layers and then pour some stock or gravy over it and grate cheese on top. Then bake until all the potatoes are cooked through etc.. delish :D

Jessie, if you decide to soak the rags in creosote you should shove some down the foxholes as well. That’s my 2 cents! Enjoyed the show tonight. 😊

They're surrounding you Jessie. It's snakes on my plot. I'm too scared to try to sort out the overgrown mess at the back of my plot. You'll hear me scream all the way from Oxfordshire

I’ve had the same conundrum with rabbits this year. I ended up trenching in 25mm chicken mesh arround the perimeter of the plot. I did find with rabbits at least, they dislike scaffold netting. Although I think fox’s would rip it bits.

Hi guys Here in Australia we have used lights called fox lights, the light holds one large torch battery, you hang a couple on the fence and the light intermittently shines in different directions mimic people being in the paddock… we used for foxes and wild dogs with good success. Our foxes were in the ‘bush’ not sure if London foxes would be as sensitive to lights?? Good luck

Chickenwire over the top of netting might help.

Great episode as usual- Tony trying to use the bean shredder was hilarious 😂 Have you got footage on your trail camera of the foxes Jessie?

Jessie - Have you thought about solar powered electric fencing? or even a system run off a car battery, we used them on the farm to keep horses and sheep in, wonder if they'd keep foxes and badgers out?

That second bean slicer you've bought is the one I use and i think it's brilliant it got to be at least 30 yr's old and still going great 😊

Hi, I’m feeling so sad for you. I have Harris fencing all around my veg plot with wire netting dug in around the bottom, so no destructive deer or badgers or foxes, or rabbits, only squirrels, pheasants, pigeons and cabbage root , which has ruined my brassicas ! I’ve been veg gardening for over 50 years…….I must be mad……it’s like hitting one’s head against a brick wall! But still try to win! Goodluck with whatever you choose. Thanks

Foxes love the dark so a light sensor could discourage them from digging.

London foxes will trot down the centre of the lighted road, sit sunning themselves on the top of your s,he’d during the day, and if you leave your door open, they will come in to say hello. 🤨

The small square bean slice is the best. No pfaffing just push through and pull out other side, no push in, turn and push like Jess one. Been using mine 50 years.

What are the allotment committee (I know you are on the committee Jess )doing cos this must be affecting everybody on the site and if it is I’m wondering if everybody would be happy to consider a more permanent boundary for the allotment and chip in perhaps. Or if the Committeee would buy a job lot of Lion poo from the local zoo for each plot to take a bag full.

JB I’ve been to David Austin a few times but I only live about an 1hr 15 min drive away. It is beautiful but I would prefer to go June July time. It’s not as big as you think and when you get to Albrighton the turn off down the road to the place is a one car farm track. So don’t think you e gone wrong. Anyway It is so lovely there though and you, well maybe more Jess will love it. They do sell other plants there too. So take your wallet Lovely gardens for inspiration there too and lovely photo opportunities.

I use an elasticized rope to tie down my netting around the outside of my bed - I have hooks banged in at 20 cm long intervals to hook the rope and keep it in place. Like a very snug belt. I have groundhogs who are sneaky terrors and they can't get in anymore.

How about alarms. I had problems with deer and bought a solar powered motion detector on Amazon for about $20 USD. Works well. Bought a second one and will probably end up with more. Don't know if it works for foxes. I keep it on the mode that works 24 hours with both lights and alarm.

Depending on where you live, it's usually planted about 3-4 weeks before your 1st freeze. If you get it in later than that it should still work, but you want to add some sulfur to the soil to help the cloves not rot as their roots will not have had time to fully develop.
