C'mon. Sunflowers have to be the cheeriest flower, right?! It even has its own emoji - that's how popular it is!
I'm growing this wonderful variety of sunflower called Helios. It's a small variety that produces lots of buds and is perfect for cut flowers as well as leaving in the garden. They've definitely found a bright spot on this Monday.

Hi, have you any ideas of how to get rid of caterpillars that are destroying my Dahlias. I know it isn't slugs/snails as the damage is mainly at the top of the plant, and I have a great copper tape system to protect from the slimy beasts......any help or advice would be wonderful. Desperate from Manchester!!!!!!

+Kate Brookes oh wow, that sucks! To be honest, I've not come across caterpillars on dahlias. When's the damage occuring? At night? The only suggestion I really have is to try and catch the blighters at it and pick them off. Most caterpillars don't stray from the leaves but there are a couple of varieties that hide in the soil in the day and then come out to munch at night. If it's those i'd go out at night and catch them at it - they're pretty voracious and just killing two or three would reduce the damage immensely. The other thing is, have slugs/snails got a possible top route like leaves touching a fence or something? In such a case copper rings won't stop them as they'll come in from the top. Let me know if you find out what the issue is!

Brimwood Farm thanks for the advice, I have hunted for the little blighters, but they remain elusive.....no sign of slug/snail trails, but I will continue to hunt. I want to remain chemical free, hence the copper! I will let you know x

perhaps a copper bracelet around the plant will help your problem i know it works for slug s and snails as this deters them ...Good Luck .
