Growing garlic chives

Thank you for this I harvested a bunch of seeds yesterday and I am planning on moving a few of the roots from the backyard to make a borderline with the white flowers!

Hi, I am growing 5 garlic chive plants, they are new, still in their first year as I sowed the seeds in yoghurt pots earlier this year in the spring, and then transplanted them into bigger pots a few months after that. I should maybe mention that I'm in the South East of England. I heard from a few different websites that you should not harvest them in their first year, so I have not done this. Now, we are in autumn and winter is around the corner...what should I do with them over winter? I read that all you have to do is cut them back and they will return in spring. Is there anyone else in the UK growing these?

Hi. These plants are hardy to zone 3 so I wouldn't worry too much. I would just make sure they are mulched. When I first planted mine the temp dropped into the 20s F and didn't have any issues. Hopefully someone from the UK will also respond.

Zone 9b. We get super hot in the summer and have a handful of nights below freezing in the winter.

if we plant garlic ( for cooking ) , do we call that garlic chives

The greens on garlic are called garlic scapes and they can be used similar to garlic chives but are different plants.

thank you 😊 that means ， garlic chives is not planted from cooking garlic , is another kind of different plant . the scapes from the garlic can be use for cooking . excellent 👌
