this is the best you tube channel bar none. only problem is not enough content! I saw Steven on another podcast (obviously not as good as this one) where he explained the degradation of man made lakes over time...this is great information and something most of us cannot comprehend. thank you!

The most educational and entertaining interview I have listened to. Mr Bardin was able to answer all the questions by Ken and David in a way that was understandable to us the non scientific fans of growing a new world record largrmouth.

What about temperature inversion of water? Terry touched on it and I understand the thermocline prevents it when it’s present. But a lake say in central tx where surface water temps get up to 90+, there’s a certain depth where the optimal growth temp exists 10 months out of the year depending on the depth. And we don’t get a thermocline every year. Great conversation! Thank you BBP
@thebigbasspodcast
@thebigbasspodcast Жыл бұрын
Clay, I'm not sure what you mean by Temp Inversion? Do you mean "turnover"?
@ClayWilliamson
@ClayWilliamson Жыл бұрын
@@thebigbasspodcast the temperature gradient..? He talked about it was too hot for optimal growing temp. The surface temp and 20ft deep temp are very different. Cooler at the bottom. But I do realize bass aren’t concerned with breaking the world record. Their not gonna focus on anything other then survival

Ive always said TPWD needed to stock trout in Canyon lake(on the guadalupe river) as its a deep clear water lake and now hydrilla in it too. Everything talked about water temps, summer, winter and depth it sets up perfect! Trout unlimited and tpwd stock the lower guad in the winter months and the stripers that live in Canyon have made their way through the dam and now grow up to 45+lbs in the river. the lake usually pretty constant level but we are in drought conditions now as its pushing 12ft low

Young Mr. Bardin is such a wealth of knowledge! I'm curious to know his opinion on Blueback Herring, and their overall effect on the Southeast bodies of water. Especially lakes with little or no populations of Striper or Hybrids to control the Herring population.

I love seeing signs encouraging people harvesting fish and if they know and have done the research on the lake they will give you an optimal size for you to harvest….for example they want you to keep LMB sizes 10”-15”. Shows that whoever is managing the lake or pond is doing their homework and will improve that body of water….I’ve only seen 1 or 2 of these signs in Maryland..:.😢

ken.. do you also seel orange has gone through the drought cycle as well?
@micropterus6974
@micropterus6974 Жыл бұрын
Ted, Orange is a little out of my usual range. I live just west of Orlando and fish a lot on the Winter Haven Chain, etc. But I do believe that Florida waters go through cycles based on sinkholes, drought, and (very occasionally) man-made drawdowns when local authorities want to work on stuff. Lately I'm hearing great things about Orange, so it seems to be on an up-cycle. The way that Florida manages its lakes is the stuff of legend. Lake Jackson -- in the 1960s and '70s was probably the best trophy lake in the entire country. It would go dry every couple of decades due to sinkholes but then bounce back with a vengeance. Then, local authorities decided to fill the sinkhole with junk cars, etc., and it's never been the same. I get that property values were being yo-yoed due to the cycles, but nature needs to be respected, too. -- Ken

@@micropterus6974 yeah I grew up fishing there (80s). Definitely know they “filled” the sinkhole in interesting ways. Oh yeah I fix reels on the side for Gary Simpson (and been going to him for my tackle since I was 6).

It sounds like Diamond Valley Reservoir in California has a bright future. But I can't help wondering how the competition from stripers affects any potential, compared to pre striper Castaic.
@thebigbasspodcast

John, I believe all the lakes in CA are going to benefit from all the water you guys got this year. The stripers, on the other hand, are a major problem in any lake if you want to grow big largemouth. Terry

This has nothing to do with bass, but Steves story reminded me of it. my niece is really interested in the psychology field, possibly psychiatry. a very brilliant girl that already has her BS under the age of 18. She said the same thing about already knowing she wanted nothing to do with anything in the public sector. "The bloated regulations and policies are dangerously stifling and counter productive. I will definitely not need them to pay for my insurance."
