I also planted a lemon 🍋. I started as you did, from the seeds. But I put the seeds in a paper towel n put it inside the plastic bag untill it sprouted. With all the seeds 2 survived n I gave one to a friend 🙂. With mine, I didn't put no fertilizer, sugar water or miracle grow, just water 💦 from the tap or from the rain. My lemon seeds is now all grown in a trash container. But one thing I forgot to do is prune it, looking at my tree, wished I did. But I'm thinking about doing it again. Oh, I also have avocado 🥑 trees, same process as the lemon seeds. Since the avocado is growing slowly, I am going to prune them. I enjoy the video. I'll keep you up dated with my new lemon seeds. Thank you n stay safe 😷. God bless.

Pro tip (for everyone): Don't overfertilize your plants, they will respond with saltburn or even death. When your plant is still very young you should especially avoid to fertilize it.

In Texas and I used organic potting soil with 1/4 miracle grow potting soil in a 18"x18" decorative plastic faux terracota square pot on my W facing apt. balcony. I've culled the seeds to 3 as all of them, 5, sprouted. I buried cut up pieces of banana peel throughout soil and added egg shells and the water I used to boil the eggs. Mine are over a foot tall and planted them in May, it's August now and I think I should plant them in separate pots as they are getting too big. Also, periodically use coffee grounds in their water. Was hoping you'd show how to transplant them when there is more than one in pot. Thanks for sharing.
@chinatownboy74822 жыл бұрын
The eggshells didn't do anything for you. Even if you ground them up, eggshells take a very long time before they decompose and become a useable nutrient for plant uptake. On an apartment balcony, you are not getting things like worms, insects, chickens, etc, who come along, eat the eggshells, them produce calcium rich droppings which go back into the soil. The same applies for coffee grounds and banana peels. On a farm, or even in a backyard, the worms and insects will process coffee grounds and banana peels. On your balcony, if you keep the same soil, those coffee grounds might benefit the plant in a year from now. And the banana peels aren't giving you the potassium boost that you think. It's better than nothing. But it's not like a high potassium fertilizer that you buy and apply. You would need 100 banana peels, decomposing over 6 weeks, to do what a few ounces of Miracle Gro does in one watering.

I just stuck my lemon seeds down in a pot with another plant, that was just in plain potting soil. Watered them once a week with tap water. The first one I planted is 4 inches tall, the leaves are a healthy green. The 2 that I stuck in the soil later are about 3 inches tall and the latest one is about an inch. I haven't kept a timeline. I didn;t buy lemon, I just used the seed from when I went out to eat and got lemon in my water. The first one was planted approximately 3 months ago. So far I haven't fertilized them at all.

15:16 just lift it dry at the beginning, weigh it dry. Clay holds tons of water. You have 2 cans with holes, put one in another container that you can fill with water. The soil will pull what it needs just like the plant pulls the water to the top leaves.

I've been wondering where the water goes when they flow out of the pots. Do you have a slope or something to catch it so it can go off the bottom of your balcony? Are your downstairs neighbors experiencing random "rain" throughout the weeks? Edit: okay I see one drain hole about 55 minutes into the video. But you're clearly watering on the green carpet and not next to that hole in some parts of the video. So I'm still curious
@TheMelvinWei3 жыл бұрын
The inner wastebaskets have 8 holes that are smaller, and the outer ones have 4. The planters drain out within minutes and produce a trickle for maybe half an hour after that. The green plastic carpet absorbs some but the runoff mostly flows to two drain pipes due to the decline of all areas of the balcony. The water coalesces and flows fast over the downstairs balcony without dripping onto it because the drain pipes come out a few inches beyond the neighbor's balcony.

Man, don't use sugar water on plants. It doesn't help them at all, in fact it damages them. If you use them on leaves it will help micro organism to develop on leaves, plus if you get the soil wet with it, it will make the roots have difficulties. They can't absorb sugar, we absorb it throught our digestion which is someting complex. A plant can't do that.
