Feeling so inspired! We just got our first 1.5 cu. yds of raised bed soil from AZ worm farm along with our first Moringa tree (just finished that video before this one.) Can't wait to start our planting. 😊

Hey, somehow I deleted my comment but I live in Gilbert and just realized you are in AZ too. I bought an acre about 4 years ago and started planting all kinds of fruit trees over the past few years along with some bamboo and 5 Royal Poincianas (all are very small still). Found your video because I have had a passion fruit plant in a pot for the last year and was still trying to figure out where to grow it. Your video is much more informative than the others I have seen with lots of little details others have left out. There is a guy a street over from me that has the works in his yard- Moringa tree, Loquats, banana, starfruit, lots of other fruit trees and about 300 feet of different types of bamboo. If you ever want to chat, hit me up. I love to chat about my new found passion- fruit trees. Thanks for the info! I might put out a video soon of my yard and do some updates as everything grows.

Alex - I def reccomend the Barbados, mine is about 8' diameter in all directions (after many prunings) and only about 2.5 years old. I got cherries the first year and this summer it has been producing so many batches one right after another that we can't eat them fast enough. Zone 9b here (Central FL).

He says don't do the cattle panel arch ... literally after I just finished putting together my cattle panel arch for my new passionfruit vine. 😕 I don't have a sunny wall or fence and the other areas of my yard have too many plants and trees that it would be a nightmare takeover. I will keep my arches narrow to provide more vertical strength and hopefully this hangs in ok. I also added the long green ground stakes around for added support as well.
@TheGardenNerd3 жыл бұрын
That should probably be okay. My arch was not narrow and the vine just got so big that the arch couldn't hold the weight. I hope I didn't discourage you as my goal is always to encourage! Give it a shot and I'm sure you'll be fine!
@spearageddon32793 жыл бұрын
@@TheGardenNerd LoL ... not discouraged at all, just thought it was funny because I was literally outside today putting it together ... came in for a bite and watched your video while having lunch, so it was pretty funny. I do believe the width of the arch would of course play a role in strength across the middle/top, so with that in mind I will just ensure it's narrow & tall vs wide & shorter. Great tips, thank you!! 😊👍👍

@@TheGardenNerd I'm planning on using cattle panel arches as well. Was going to create a "tunnel" using two cattle pannel arches touching. Thought this would help provide the large area that it needs. Am I asking for trouble?

Great video. Thank you for the information. I just bought a passionate fruit vine and the fruit on it is huge, like 3 inches long. I'm going to pot this vine and run it along my fence. I want to keep it tamed and not too bushy or overgrown. Can I keep the vine pruned way back? Hopefully I made sense. Thanks again for the video.

Thanks for the video. Assume vine! Does it freeze where you live? I live in Vegas and the last couple of years we have gotten temps in the mid 20s for a day or two. It killed my passion fruit plant along with my moringa trees among other things. I planted another and hope it will make it this time.

I'm in Arizona, 9a/b. If it gets hit with a freeze, it will generally bounce back once it heats back up again. And once the roots are established, it grows fast!

You mentioned Monarchs and, my area, near Orlando, is a key pathway for The Monarchs. Note the plural. There are many more than one type of Monarch butterfly. Do you know about the Dutchman Pipevine? Ever seen the Blue tailed Black Swallowtail or the Yellow Giant Swallowtail? They require this vine to exist. I'm having a hell of a time getting one started. They're near impossible to grow from seed and the nursery charges a premium for the UGLY vine. I wonder if mixing the passion fruit vine with the Dutchman's Pipevine would...hmm...I have an idea...
@tinaschraier67242 жыл бұрын
if you are going to eat the leaves I would not interplant and think of future generations before you combine.. due to some wanting to eat the leaves and stems of new growth. Dutchmans Pipe warning : Is Dutchman's pipe poisonous? It's also known as the California Dutchman's pipe because its flowers are curved in the shape of a tobacco pipe. And then there's these “lips.” Oh hello, gorgeous! The vine grows heart-shaped leaves, but don't be fooled. The plant produces poisonous compounds that could cause kidney cancer if you ate it. As seen on :

I'm not sure WHAT the deal is but, I'm on my THIRD "Type" of Passion Fruit vine, with the first two, producing tons and tons of beautiful flowers but not ONE passion fruit. Mexican dude at the landscaping place tells me, "Jew need the blue flower. Dat one make the fruit!". I said, "I told you, I have the blue flower one.". He says, "Oh, you do? Right. You need to PURPLE juan. Dat one - -". --Yeah, yeah! No. So, I went to Thomas's nursery on the other side of town. Groovy Susan Powder chick says, "You need the RED passion vine.". FINE! So, I bought the Red one and now, own a purple flower, a blue flower and now, a red flower! What am I missing? How am I not getting fruit?
