Growing Pepper Plants in Pots and Raised Beds - Including Patio Pickers Trays

I'm growing my peppers in big pots, raised beds and Patio Pickers trays this year. Note that for the Patio Pickers, I did not follow their method for preparing the trays. I just filled every container with potting soil I purchased from my local Lowe's Hardware. Interestingly, the trays do seem to be producing peppers just as well as they did when I followed the PP instructions. I do mist these plants with a fairly substantial portion of water every morning. It's about a week after I shot this video as I write this, and I'm enjoying harvesting and cooking peppers already!

Are you still using the tube to water them and keeping the platform inside (bottom up watering)? Did you drill holes in the bottom instead for top watering? I just bought these to plant with my kids and didn't know there were exact directions. I've never attempted growing veggies before so i did research and grabbed other things for planting (no lime, sand add-in, etc) Seeing so many reviews that following their directions gave awesome results so was like "ugh, another trip to Lowe's!?" I see in your description that you did not follow the directions as you did in the video 2 years ago and the results are similar but id like to know if you made any modifications to the bed itself or are just using your own mix and mulching instead of using their cover.

I did leave the screens in the bottom, but I am not watering through the hole. All I did was put quality potting soil in and water every other day. So far so good. I have made no modifications at all to the patio pickers trays. Consequently, the plants do seem to be doing a bit better in them than in the pots which do have drain holes.

@tonyleeglenn thanks so much! I appreciate you responding. You're the first that I saw that didn't follow the directions, I found you video that did go exactly as stated and then went through your videos to try to find an update about that crop and came across this video and saw them with mulch 2 years later with the description that you abandoned the manufacturer instructions and your plants are doing just as well. I was really worried about going against directive since I'm not a gardener but really really want my kiddos to see something for their hard work and they begged me to plant. I chose "easy" growers where the kids could have something to show for them other than a few leaves that eventually get flowers. I went with strawberries, cucumber, tomato, and giant sunflowers as well as Marigolds and Nasturtiums from seed. It's late in the season but the sunflowers will get a few feet to them before the cold sets in our 6b-7a indianapolis. Hoping to get a few fruit for them to be proud of too. Your container garden is enviable for sure!!
