Thank u so much! I've been searching for a time progression growth of perilla. Mine are 13 days old in a pot and look the same as yours, but I soaked my seeds in a wet paper towel for a few days first. All 5 seeds sprouted

I live in a rural area. A few years ago I started identifying the "weeds" in my yard. Amongst several, I found what looked like nettles! I was ecstatic! But no stingers. Hmmm. You know how when a plant talks to you? I had to do some research on this pretty plant. Sure enough! Perilla-forgotthetype! Green on top and bronze underneath. Last spring I pulled some up, yes pulled them up to replant them in a little bed. They grew like gangbusters until frost; flinging their little seeds everywhere.lol! I guess what I'm saying is get them in the yard w a good drenching, in part or light shade, and ignore them. Good luck!!!

i've read that you can start harvesting after the plant is 8 inches or taller, or when the leaves are about 4 inches in diameter!

Hi thanks so much for the great video. This is my first try to grow the Shiso from seed, already in peat pellets for about 8-days. Seeds are just emerging and look so fragile! How long should the plastic covers remain on the trays? These seedlings are indoors, 70F. Our normal planting time is end of May. When will I know when it’s time to remove the plastic covers? Thank you!
@connies_slice_of_life2 жыл бұрын
hello! i'm no expert, but i think i removed the plastic cover after the seeds sprouted, because in the past, all my plants were overtaken by mold and the plastic covers trapped the humidity

Hello! Thanks for the video. My perilla is growing fast but it bloomed really fast. Am I supposed to pick out the flowers? It’s only April in Florida. I don’t need flowers yet. I would rather enjoy the leaves for a long time.

This is my second attempt at growing perilla from seeds, and I've learned they grow so much better if you start them outdoors without much babying! My first set I did indoors, they all sprouted, and within a week of me taking them from their "nursery," they all died 😂 You're lucky you got one survivor out of yours! I restarted a new batch where I just sprinkled seeds on top of a pot of soil and left them outside, making sure to water daily. It's been less than two weeks and most have survived, and the leaves are bigger and fuller than my previous attempt at the same time span!

Hi there from Tulsa Oklahoma. I hope that you can help me with my Green Shiso (perilla) plants (2 small) that I grew from seeds. The leaves are very light green and now are turning brown and falling off. What did I do wrong and what do I need to do for my next go round? Thank you for sharing! ❤❤

Only 1 survivor out of 12? I thought I was too tough on myself. If i start from small seed pots like this, eventually i get 50% to adulthood and produce leaves. I was hoping to get at least 80%. Also, many adults start to seed before they provide me leaves. I wonder if I’m starting the seeds either too early in the season or too late in the season.

I tried growing perilla from seed and wine they all sprouted, they are stunted and appear to have flowers. What am I doing wrong?
@hansel20015 ай бұрын
What month did you plant them and what country do you live in? It’s quite possible that if you planted them too early or too late in the season, the plant thinks that due to the days being short, it’s time to go to seed (as opposed to leaf) so they can provide seeds for next year.

Hello! When I grew these for this video, the temperature was around the mid 60s (Fahrenheit) at night, and high 80s during the day. I think I've read in the past that these flourish best during the summer though. They're still doing well in my backyard right now, and the temperature is usually in the mid-high 90s now. Good luck! :D

My perilla seeds sprouted, but they have stopped growing any larger. Many of them are still at baby sprout stage and their leaves have slowly turn brown and died out. After they sprouted to baby plants, I transfer them to a bigger pot and leave them outside with direct sunlight at least 5 hours a day. It is always 90 degree Fahrenheit outside these days, but I water them every day. Could you give me any suggestion to save the remainder of the plants, please?
@connies_slice_of_life4 жыл бұрын
i'm no expert, but in my experience it's better to move the plants outside after they pass the baby sprout stage and have grown some leaves (since the sun is so strong!). good luck!
