A delicious fruit. I found a lot of this tree in the brazil forests. A tip to grow from seeds is gather a lot of beans and put in a bowl with water and await the beans start grow, after that, you can beat the beans in the blender and drop the beans juice where you planted the seeds. the beans will be with a lot of growing hormon.

I bought two small trees from the local nursery quite a while ago. They both turn into quite large trees. One of them produces lots of fruits while the other one just sat there looking pretty and not much fruits ! From the one with lots of fruits, I now have a garden full of such trees beside the usual suspects such as Guava and citruses. They are very hardy and not particularly precious about the soil. But water is essential. Adequate to plenty of it meant a good crop. I do find it really easy to grow. Seeds will grow true-to-type. My friends are constantly curious about the bright red fruits. All but a couple of them thought the fruits are disgusting. Those who appreciate the taste, asked for a tree for two, and I always obliged. So now there are many of such trees spread around my town. Taste wise, it is a cross between mango and orange, and rather sweet.

How are you able to provide such vast amounts of knowledge in your video content? I'm the durian guy. I started growing durian on big island Hawaii, then moved back to Florida. Have you been to our Vietnamese community in st Petersburg FL or Pinellas park? Weekends have farmers market of mostly Vietnamese, Lao, Phillipines fruits and plants. Mike

Our house in Clearwater, which is zone 9, considered sub-tropical, we had two well established bushes (small trees, actually) they didn't drop their leaves in winter. Ours was the red variety, I don't believe they ever turned black, at least not prior to falling off the branch. Some years it would be loaded with fruit. But, I would caution you, they are very tart if not fully ripe. And, the fallen cherries will sprout all around on the ground, so if you don't rake them up, you will get little plant sprouts everywhere.

hey wendi really enjoyed your video I'm here in zone 10b in culver city CA, and my surinam cherry is fruiting, so I'm excited to try them but i have the red kind hopefully its good as the purple one. by the way do you by any chance grow any mangos? Ps i also got a papaya tree because of your video haven't planted it in the ground yet, waiting for winter to pass :) but its getting big.

+Sammy Tahir I was told the red variety is not as sweet as the black, but any exotic fruits grown is pretty cool to me! Enjoy it. I don't have a mango tree, but neighbors that have it, do get some fruits. So it's doable :) Happy Gardening!

I am in SoCal so where can I get either the seeds or a little tree...? Great video! Do you grow dragon fruit too? I have figs and papayas this year...and hopefully sweet potatoes...also grew a few potatoes and artichokes this past past spring...grapes got infected 👎
@wendiland
@wendiland 9 жыл бұрын
Tom Jones Since most exotic fruits require fresh seeds for germination, I planted all of mine. You can get them here: wendiland.com/products/surinam-cherry I'm growing dragon fruit also, but weather's been strange this year so no fruits yet. If you want a cutting of it, I can ship it with your plant. I love homegrown artichokes, they are so sweet! You just reminded me that I have to make room to grow them again. Wish I had a fig tree...what variety of papaya to you grow? Are you able to save your grapevine? They are pretty hardy...Good luck on your sweet potatoes and other garden goodies!
@tomjones6296
@tomjones6296 9 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately my grapevine got some kind of fungus or something...it did have little grapes but I had to cut it back...the papayas....I just bought a nice one at the store and saved the seeds,dried them and planted...I have several little trees producing fruit...one has several dozen ..like you say...weathers going to be the main factor...too much rain or frost could be a problem...but so far going good. Figs...I had to keep my tree real small because of available growing space...and I have to cover it with netting lest the birds get the fruit first. I did see Dragon Fruit in a store here...as I recall they were $4 a pound...I may buy one anyway just for fun...I need to check out if they can grow from the seeds inside like papayas. I have such a tiny yard and limited year-round sun, so have to be careful what I plant...the Mission Figs have terrific taste, but must be fully tree ripened to get the full flavor...if someone has room they can get to be big trees and give a lot of figs...I would like to try getting some cuttings from mine and have several small trees, or bushes..(due to space limitations)....thanks for the link..I'll check it out... Happy growing...and great videos!

From Google I will freely admit these little red pumpkins are an acquired taste. Most folks are expecting some kind of cherry taste and they don’t have that. No matter how ripe, there is a resinous quality. To be blunt, you either like them or you definitely do not. More so, they must be picked when absolutely ripe or they are a very unpleasant edible experience. What is absolutely ripe? There is orange red, the color of cars, and here is blue red, the color of old-time fire trucks and blood. Surinam cherries are edible when they are a deep blood-red. Let me repeat that: A deep blood-red. An orange red one won’t harm you but you’ll wish you hadn’t eaten it. And I know you will push the envelope and try one that is not deep, blue-blood red. Don’t blame me. I warned you. You won’t die or throw up or the like but your mouth will disown you and the next time you will pick a very ripe one. T
