Do you know how I met Farouq? It was when I was interviewing foreign-looking people in Japan with Jack (a 10-year old American boy.) It was actually Jack who approached Farouq. I didn't even notice him at first because my brain didn't register him as a "foreigner". I think because we are both Japanese, we can kind of tell that we are Japanese and Farouq has a pretty "Japanese" personality. So Jack approached Farouq and as soon as he opened his mouth, I immediately knew that he was Japanese because of the way he carried himself and way he spoke. Those things give out where you are from. But this means that if you want to talk to people like Farouq, you need to speak Japanese because they don't speak English. So if you want to learn Japanese with me, I can send you some free Japanese lessons so click the link and subscribe bit.ly/3i6HUdp

Thang Vuong In many traditional Asian cultures, marrying a non Asian person is frowned upon, and the mixed child has a rough time even if their appearance is okay. Especially mixes with African ethnicity, as many traditional Asian cultures have mostly been exposed to African Americans through things where they are portrayed as “hood boys”, like movies or shows.

I’m not emphasizing racism, no matter if it’s there or not. No but this man's features are crazy tho. He's got the skin and the hair of his dad, but his facial structure is clearly Japanese. I work in a Japanese nursery school now where there is this half-black Japanese boy is totally the kids king!! He is the oldest for one reason, but he also has this charisma rarely seen on a 6-year-old, not to mention he is good at dancing, singing, sports, languages, etc... Seriously whatever he does or say, in one day or two the rest from babies to 5 years olds will copy him. He also have these most beautiful blinking eyes I have ever seen. I love this kid so much. He is gonna do great stuff. And when he speaks Japanese there's no accent but he currently can speak English in a mix of African accent, Japanese accent, British accent and American accent. (His father is black African, and we have teachers speak in both British and American English in our nursery school.).I 100% agree any half kids parents send them to learn English from a young age. It will make the downsides into upsides of being half in Japan.

I think it is just not common enough for people to comprehend...yet. Japanese like Farouq are still rare. Most are still going to be African or African-American who speak English or their native tongue if from Africa. As someone who grew up in America I am expecting him to speak English. The blacks that live here look exactly like him and of course speak English. It is "shocking" because his Japanese is better than his English. My brain wants him to speak English but I hear Japanese coming out of his mouth. Again it is just hard for us to comprehend because we do not encounter people with a background like Farouq's on an everyday basis.

@alemalem67286 жыл бұрын

@chungshiuliau4316 жыл бұрын
Nope. One can become Japanese only when one of the child's parents are Japanese. Being Japanese means to have and inherit the bloodline of Japanese from at least one of the parent. BTW, before 90's of the late century, kids born between Japanese women and foreign fathers were not allowed Japanese nationalities. Only kids with Japanese father and foreign mother were naturally acknowledged as Japanese. Why ? Because in the mindset of Japanese, women who married foreigners, were betraying their countries. They were marrying out...so kids birth right was not recognised. But because of the declining birth rate, in the 90's, law was reviewed and Japanese Government has backed track to 1965, and allowed the "hafu" kids born in and after 1965 from Japanese mothers allowed Japanese nationality, given that they discard the name of the fathers, because dual nationality is not admitted in Japan. It caused a bit of uproar between the "hafu" who was born before that time, because actually many Japanese women had married Yankees after WWII when Yanks were stationed in Japan as occupational Forces. Therefore there were quite many hafu born before the designated time limit, and living in Japan after parents got divorced. Not all the kids made it back to America. Do the kids mother has to apply for naturalisation process to get kids Japanese nationality, when kids tured 18, just like the foreigners. But that's another story. So if you think people can get Japanese nationality, or citizenship, by just being born there, you are being naive as well as ignorant, and clearly out of touch with reality of Japanese society.

Nathaniel Mills I live in London. Mixed-race people are sometimes seen as the epitome of beauty. Mixed-race people can be bullied but I've never seen anyone get bullied because they're mixed race. In my school some of the most popular and perceived to be beautiful are mixed race. In my old school, one of the (admittedly prettiest) bullies was mixed race. Don't worry about it. The girl in my current school (who everyone can agree is probably most popular girl in my year) is half-Asian and half-black. I know people who were not mixed race and they still got bullied.

I think it's weird that no one assumes he's Japanese. His accent is right-on, and he doesn't not look mixed. I would assume he is, after a bit talking to him.
@pro-er1mx8 жыл бұрын
not weird? he is extremely unique.. there's a bigger chance people assuming that he came from overseas assimilating in japan. let's be real.. when people see a guy like him, do you think people will think 'Japanese guy'? of course not.. it's just reality, it's not a negative/positive thing it's how you perceive it and this guy seems to have no problems with it.. but he has no choice, he is Japanese and it's his birth country. but that's something he has to deal with unless japan suddenly has a boom in mixed couples.
@nikkei325i8 жыл бұрын
@pro it is just sad that he has to deal with the "foreigner card" his whole life. Yes, his nationality is Japanese, but the majority do not look like him. He is going to face judgement his WHOLE LIFE unfortunately based on the way he looks. It is unfair. Luckily Japan is becoming more racially diverse as its population shrinks and it allows more foreigners to work in Japan. It will be awhile, but a few decades into the future people like Farouq will be the norm.

I am also a blaisan of Japanese descent and it was TORTURE where I grew up,because it was a small town with no foreigners,so I got stared at A LOT.In high school I was really popular, and I had good marks in English (I'm fluent as you can see),but I'm better in math.

My goodness he is attractive. I have the same sense of awkwardness as him when it comes to speaking Japanese in Japan. I'm half Japanese, half American but grew up in the States most of my life. Whenever I visit Japan to see friends and family, I struggle to communicate because I mostly identify as American, since I'm fluent in English. My Japanese level is conversational but in no way fluent (also can't read or write very well).

You sound like one of my half japanese half white friends who took japanese classes with me! Since her mom is Japanese and she practices speaking with her, her accent is better than mine, but i can read & write things she can't bc i've been studying longer, even though i'm black and she actually has japanese blood it just goes to show you that we're all humans at the base of it, and our environment/what we learn is what really defines how we end up

Thanks for following up with this guy Yuta. I thought it was interesting how he said that if you were more energetic you wouldn't get bullied. I had a black friend that grew up in Japan and she was bullied. I think her introversion may have contributed to her experiences.

It's because when you're more lively and outgoing you're expected to fight back, and people generally respect you more (which I don't like myself, as I am indeed more of an introvert, but thankfully white in a white country). I feel like people who stand out sadly get tested and approached with some type of reservation unless they prove themselves - and that is hard when you're into yourself a lot and just want to live your life like everyone else.
@Juice-chan8 жыл бұрын
being different in an environment is a double edged sword. If you play your cards right you will easily get in everybodys heart and mind. But as stated you will get harder tested. And wrong moves will have strong consequences too. You can´t mend in with the mess so everything you do will be seen somehow.

This guy is the perfect example of why people shouldn’t judge people when they see them. He is 100% Japanese cause not only is his mom Japanese but he grew up there and spoke the language. He can speak it cause it’s his mother tongue and he’s ハフ。people like this get judged too often as well as attempt to be categorized. Plane an simple, he’s black and Japanese and was raised in Japan by his mother and speaks Japanese. WOW!
