I'll be straight up. I used to grow other things in tents. But when I moved into a flat and had no garden I decided to use that gear to grow veggies. I'm just building a setup in my new flat and plan to grow all sorts to keep me going. I love chillies and want to grow some powerful ones too. Thank you for this.

Same here. Transitioned to veggies using knowledge and experience I learned from cannabis. In my experience so far, peppers have been the most successful! Have fun!

I just saw a news report on C.R.(Consumer Reports)They tested a bunch of herbs we all commonly use, and they found unnaceptable levels of lead and cadmium and other heavy metals. More than humans are allowed to have in a days limit. I am going to now start growing my own spices, and mix my own curry, chilly powder and spices. Your help is greatly appreciated. 🇨🇦👊🏻👨🏻🏭⚡💖🍁

So happy to find your video about growing using a grow tent. There are lots of stuff online about growing “pot” “weed” in grow tents, but not a lot about growing vegetables. Love to see more videos like this. I’m keen to learn if gardeners grow lots of different veges in their tents and how they set it up. Plus, how they deal with things like whitefly… which wiped my whole vege grow tent plot out 😢. So I’m starting from scratch again. Thanks Gardner Scott 😊

Nice. I've just started usi g a secret Jardin Dp120 growtent this year as i dont have decent wi dows for enough light for seedlings and also dont have the space in the house so the tent is in an unheated garage. I'm using my growtent for starting off my toms, squash, peppers, cucumbers, corn and early veg to bring them on before moving down to the allotment. You might want to get a fan or two to keep the air moving and to help the plants strengthen their stems. Two things that i think might be a problem with my 5 level tent is humidity and diminishing CO2 levels.

I used peat today as an experiment with my tomatoes. Planted 2, 72 cell trays, one was with a peat starting mix the other was leaf mold. To keep everything the same, I added a scoop of perlite and vermiculite to both. I have been using leaf mold as a seed starter for the last two years, I just want to do a side by side experiment. I know the leaf mold works, Just going to make a video to show that it does. Disclaimer! The leaf mold I am using I had to cook to kill off any potential jumping worms. I added compost and worm casting extract to the leaf mold in November, then added some red wigglers to put some life back into the leaf mold. I am convinced leaf mold is a superior seed starter over peat or coco choir. Stay Well!!!

I plan on using my leaf mold for the plants going outside, just in case it's harboring a pest I don't know about.

Thanks for another great video. I think grow tents are great, but not having enough room for one I've had to make one out of a small a 35 x 14 x 61 inch rack with lights in my small laundry room, which just leaves just enough room to open the washer & dryer doors, that I wrapped is some reflective, thin insulation. I will tune in to your grow tent adventures with great interest, as I'd like to try out some dwarf tomatoes in my setup next winter. Red

Well, Scott. I am so happy for you. I always feel bad for you, that you have to wait so long to plant. Now, you can grow right along with some of us. Then again, when you are able to go outside and plant...🥵🥵WE are stuck inside. It all works out.

Thank u for this. Dont u need some type of drainage. Then u transplant outside?
@GardenerScott Жыл бұрын
The base of the tent is waterproof for any drainage. I am not transplanting these plants outside. They are just growing indoors.
@Tm-gs1xk9 ай бұрын
If the plants are leggy it can be because they are too close aswell tomatoes are wierd inside. Start high and see them thicken or stretch before you decide. The light is strong on this led but penetration isn't so great. I'm growing tomatoes with two stems this year to combat this but I'm definitely keeping my lights high for a long time probably until they are about 18inch tall with two developed trusses. Otherwise the plant will not grow not thicken up to hold fruit.

Great video! I just set a little grow tent inside and I know I need a different light system if I’m growing strictly inside, to harvest but is that the same rule for lettuce? I have a half way decent setup so just wanted to see if it possible.
@GardenerScott Жыл бұрын
Lettuce may not need as much light. Because it grows quickly it's easy to grow a test batch and see how the lights do.

Hey Gardener Scott, I've got a question for you. I try my best to plant by the signs. This weekend is good for below ground crops. The nighttime temps are going to be in the mid 20's for the next three days as well as three days next week. My question is, can I plant my potatoes in 20 gallon grow bags that are a little over half full of soil? Will the cut pieces survive those temps?
@GardenerScott Жыл бұрын
That may be a bit too cold for the potatoes. Since they're in bags, consider bringing them into a warmer area overnight.
@gardeninjake Жыл бұрын
@@GardenerScott I did just that. It didn't even dawn on me that I had a little cheapy greenhouse in the garage. I set it up and stuck a heater in there with my taters and it 83 degrees in there right now. Thanks for answering my question!

I have a cute (ish) story. I have had a horrible gardening year this year. I've only been able to harvest about 8 or so ears of corn, a few handful of beans, and one, count it one, loofah. I have had every, single pest destroy my garden, and I refuse to use pesticides (unless the pest can kill humans). I make an exception for that. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I thought maybe it was because I changed my compost system, and that attracted the pests. I even had an exterminator come by offering his services claiming that he had all ready exterminated the insects at a bunch of my neighbors' houses, and I looked at him and I said, "Boy, did you come to the wrong house! You're the reason I've had to put up with every pest around in my garden! You're the re reason I'm working outside daily in over 100 degree heat! You're the reason I'm working my fingers to the bone trying to feed my family!" My friends told me I should have just told him to leave my property. Poor guy. Today, in my 1/8 of an acre garden, I saw about 10 different species of lizard, dragon flies galore, and tons of beneficial predatory insects. I was the only one who wasn't poisoning either the bad bugs or the good bugs too. My neighbors don't get to see the beauty of zero pesticides. Next year, I'm hoping they'll just stay in my garden.

What if you're like me and don't have electricity? What do we do?
@GardenerScott Жыл бұрын

@ghostridergale Жыл бұрын
Other choice for power if you don’t have electricity from the grid is to get a solar system. Depending on the amount of power you need you may not need a huge solar system? You can buy solar kits you just connect together that’s pretty easy. If you need more power you can run more solar kits to power for more plants. I’m on the electoral grid, but my area where my garden is there isn’t any power near that area and it be expensive to have the power ran to my garden area. It was cheaper and easier for me to just run solar systems to my garden keeping batteries charged and using 12 volt to 110 volt converter when I needed to. Another choice if you’re in a windy area are wind turbines or if you have a water source like a stream that the water got some current to it you may be able to use the water to generate power as well. If you live where the TV show Homestead Rescue Aires and are able to watch the show or if you can stream the show, etc. that show has some terrific ways to do things without being on the grid that you may be able to get your own ideas from watching it? I’ve picked up a few tricks off that show myself. They also use a lot of materials that just laying around and repurpose it rather then spending money on new materials. They really do many things with out of the box thinking not only to save money but to do things in harsh areas that’s would normally be difficult to almost impossible to grow things or raise animals there. Some things they do are more difficult that take either more professional help or more experienced people. But many things you can do yourself without that much extra knowledge. Well worth watching if you’re able to? Assuming you can get on KZbin, there’s many things you can pick up there as well doing searches. Best of luck to you!

The belief that vegitables aren't nearly as healthy for us as they were 50 years ago has been bandied about for some time. Spinach, for instance having a seventh the amount of some minerals than in the days of Popeye the Sailor Man. I'm a sun-grown man myself (including cannabis, which is the major "Spider-farmer" market.) Minerals? Seaweed maybe? Greensand?
