Start your watermelon seeds in a speedling tray or soil blocks it prevents transplant shock and your plants will form a better root system

I'm a terrible gardener but I try, I saw something new growing in the garden and I was wondering if it's from the melon seeds I threw there, it so cool that I can check back with your channel to see how to help it grow and all, thanks for your video.

Great tips;...I use coffee filters instead of paper toweling, though. The roots don't bind their way into the paper towels that way and still get enough moisture..just a suggestion................Great video.......try Crimson Sweet variety. they will grow faster than the Charlestons, and you will still get 35-40 Lb. melons.

When you put the seeds in the ziplock bag on a piece of papertowel. Can you leave the bag outside ot do they have to stay inside. It's nice and warm out and no cold snaps left fornthe year.

So I'm not an experienced garder. I love in a condo townhouse and have a small garden. Last year I ate the best melon ever and decided to plant all the seeds. I've been weeding my garden and pulling out unknown sprouts and then after working a lot of overtime for 2 weeks realized I have some vines growing where I buried those seeds. So I have no idea what I'm doing. Is every vine coming out of the ground a different plant or are they all connected? Can I move a couple? The area they are in is very small and if each vine coming out of the soil is going to be a different plant they won't have any room to grow? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

They are individual plants and yes, you can transplant them elsewhere or simply spread them out a few feet apart

Do you use the paper towel method as soon as you take them out of the melon or do you sit them out to dry?
@RobBackyardGardenerr6 жыл бұрын
jessica hill I let them dry out for at least a week.

I put all the seeds in a bowl of water, was told that any seeds that float to the top are not viable, & then I cleaned the few I wanted to plant, 2 seeds a paper towel about 1 inch apart, & keep them damp in the Ziploc, it's been 3 days & they are sprouting 😁
@kyleemiller29376 жыл бұрын
So once you take them out of the watermelon do you clean them or do anything to them or do you just put them in the paper towel and let them germinate
@RobBackyardGardenerr6 жыл бұрын
kyle miller I give them a light rinse, sometimes.

I’ve been doing the seed germination with watermelon seeds for my plant science class we have to use water and a treatment I picked hydrogen peroxide I’ve Been doing it for 2 weeks already they haven’t germinated and I had to restart my hydrogen peroxide ones because every time I would put it on the seeds they would explode 😪 what do I do? I keep them in patry dishes half open so they can get air and keep them inside BC outside it’s to hot right now

From what time you put the seeds in the wet towel ?

From the moment you start them until the green seed leafs come out and the root is at least a few inches.

What is your 2-cup method? Thanks for answering! I love your videos!
@RobBackyardGardenerr7 жыл бұрын
I demonstrate it in my tomato transplant video (uploaded a few weeks ago), but basically I take 2 cups. The inner cup has a hole punched into the bottom of it and it sits inside the other cup. The outer cup acts as the reservoir and the inner cup with the hole drains into the outer cup to allow for good drainage and oxygen in the soil. Hope this helps!

When do I plant outside like how many months old
@RobBackyardGardenerr7 жыл бұрын
TheIndoorGardener As soon as your weather is warm enough. You can also plant outside as soon as your zone permits. I waited until about 2 months old but only because I started them too early. They took a little time to adjust but see, to be doing well now. The update is next weekend. Thank you for watching!

How often do you water watermelon seeds in the cup?

Anytime! The ones that were in the greenhouse method (ziploc bag over the cup) required less frequent watering since the humidity was higher. Happy growing and good luck!

You would get healthier seedlings if you sowed them in a pot, just takes time and its better if you know germination rate. But i would sow it in a pot anyways
