I don't call it pruning, but when my pepper seedlings get their 3rd set of true leaves, I pinch out the top of the plant. That forces the plant to develop 2 stems instead of one, and strengthens the main stem so no staking or cages are necessary. They do very well every year.

Most plants are perennial. They just call certain ones annual because thise cannot survive in the area where they are sold, but you can make them last if you know how to overwinter them.

@@XbullzX1 I use green sand, kelp, neem cake, Epsom salts, worm castings and a shot of bloom builder by Soul. The bloom builder was free so I add it and I know it’s a great addition. A person could just use the other things and do fantastic. I’m completely sold on my formula though. My garden is flourishing. I use one tablespoon of neem, kelp, and Epsom salts per gallon. The green sand is a handful and worm castings are couple of cups. I arriate the product with my spray nozzle. The green sand and castings have to be stirred often, I pour by hand and the mixture is suppose to be 500 to one. 🤷🏼‍♀️😎

In short season areas (zone 3b/4a) it can be essential to prune away excess growth about 4-6 wks before average first frost. In my garden, we lop off all immature pepper, tomato, squash fruits/vines --to allow the existing unripe fruits to fill out and ripen. Earlier in season, I prune off all lower branches on tomatoes which touch soil (prevent diseases-- I do mulch but heirloom varieties more prone) and also prune off excess cuke & melon vines. Pruning has its place, depends on zone, and early vs later in season.

According to studies at Purdue, pruning causes 38% less yield in tomatoes. The percentage may change, but the simple and seemingly obvious fact is: less plant results in a lower yield. Pruning did concentrate the tomatoes to be bigger, but the overall yield is much less.

I work In the cannabis industry and alot of what he does we do, Using certain mycelium spore blends boosts harvest and health of of plants from mycelium that increases water uptake or fights root rot ect ect they do it all really and can being plants back from the brink alot of the times.

Planted Ocra for the first time directly in the ground around one month ago. We had had a drought but now we just had 3 weeks of rainy weather and it looks like it's rotting. Rather than wait to see if any of it survives i'm about to go out and plant seeds over again in-between the others. Thinking this was just a wet early summer, a few years back i used a greenhouse but last year i used shade which worked out really well. I was planning to erect the shade structure mid June but it's just been miserable here in the French alps at 1000M ASL

Hey john! I have a jalapeño and a red bell together in a big big pot filled with real good quality soil that I bought and I mixed in real good organic fertilizer and I the bell pepper I bought wasn’t in the good of shape, it was showing signs of calcium deficiency but I thought it would recover, a month later it’s gotten bigger but all the new leaves are super bad and curled and deformed and don’t get bigger than a half dollar and the soil is good quality so what am I doing wrong? I water them on a good schedule and the jalapeño looks just fine with no issues (it’s in the same exact pot) it’s doing awesome so what’s wrong with the bell???

Here In central Oklahoma I’ve had good luck with cayenne , Shishito, jimmy nardelo, and somewhat habanero . But this year germination was a big issue and only my chiltepin did good .

Totally screwed up lots of my garden this year by putting over a tonne of compost (free from the community dump). However it needs a few more years, it's 50% wood still! If your source of soil amendment is anything like this then think about storing it and possibly building a bio reactor to help to break it down quicker. I've been raking it as i plant, trying to remove the most of the woody material. I have also had to amend it with peat and universal soil as well as Comfrey tea and some other organic amendments. Also i have scored tonnes of grass cuttings this year, we worked hard to collect it all, they have done wonders for my berries now going strong ! Also i have added plenty of grass cuttings to my long term and short term composts. Top tips of the day. lol

In SE FL, we can only plant peppers in Jan, Feb, Mar, Aug, Sept - have to work with the seasonal temps, not against them. I personally find peppers very challenging to grow here - and of course its something that I eat a lot of, so I've been planting a couple seeds of several different kinds every month to see if I can hit on the magic time & type .... I'm trying under the oak tree, rather than full sun this time.

Fruit trees can have over abundance of fruits that can be smaller crowding and rubbing against each other . Pruning the smaller ones off can allow the remainder to have more energy and space to grow larger. Some plants grown from seed can be promoted to branch out by pinching the new growth tip that does not callous or shock the plant as cutting into stalk does

Epsom salts will help keep your flowers on. I throw a handful in with everything I plant except lettuce and kale. You can add some to water and water it in also.

So how would I use worm castings if my peppers and tomatoes are already planted? Also, should green beans be watered everyday? That's what I was doing but they started turning yellow so I backed off to every other day but I also thought maybe they were getting hungry so I fertilized them about 5 days ago for the first time, I'm thinking the yellowing was from one or the other, , I guess we will see, any input would be really appreciated!

Worm casting will pretty much dissolve in water, so you can top dress around the plants and water it in! As for the watering, it is better to do a deep watering every 3-6 days. Watering a little bit every day will not get the soil deeper down soaked through, so the roots wont grow deeper. They also will not grow deeper if it always has the water it needs at the top layers. Try not watering after doing a deep soak and see how long until your plants look like they need water. Use this amount of days to use as a reference as when to water. The roots will grow deeper to find water, you may not need to water as much as you think all the time, just more at one time!

Hi John, been watching for almost a year and ive never commented before. I wanted to say thanks for all the tips, laughs and inspiration. Organic growing methods is a must for our sustainability and it was an obvious choice for me when I decided to get serious about gardening. My peppers seem like they're still in hibernation. My raised bed has great soil. The peppers are full of leaves but just small. Tomatoes in the same bed have grown very well. Going to increase my liquid fertilizer applications heavier in P. It may be our night time temps. They have been cool up until tonight. I'm in zone 5b.

I make my own. Stinks like rotten eggs but the results are visible within 24 hours. Leaves are greener and they position themselves to gather the most available light. Look up how to PSB (Photosynthetic Bacteria ) if you want to give it a try.

I have two green houses 3 raised beds and probably a hundred containers throughout my property I do the same thing I brew 24 hours a day I own a worm farm I use pure liquid probably 10 15 Gallons a week I add to my compost tea I'm going to try that biofluxe that stuff has everything possible in it the vegetables and herbs would like or any living plant good choice 👍 I've been using a lot of Bio nutrients Mammoth p great white very expensive stuff as well as Emerald Harvest $110 a gallon Mammoth P $650 a gallon you know what I'm growing Boogie blue compost tea is very good I buy the six pound batches I wish he had 25 pound batches I might have to go with green bicycle I'll have to post a pic on my KZbin page of my victory garden check it out sometime your stuff looks 👍

Not a nutrient, but I add Stall-Dri to my mixes to aid in drainage. It's a habit I picked up for banana mixes and seems to work well all the way around as well, particularly if you're in clay soil or growing in planters..
