The idea is to feed the microbes in the soil which in turn feed the plant, would have been better scattering the fertiliser and covering with mulch The garden looks good either way

Great video! To clarify, you said you add a bag of compost every month until Easter. Is this with the slow release pellets as well? Thanks!

Can i ask if your glenn mango gets much sun?
@RealLifeFruitopia3 жыл бұрын
It's right beside a large Pineapple Guava, so not much sun in winter, partly sunny in summer. The taller it gets, more sun exposure.
@mangojones74433 жыл бұрын
@@RealLifeFruitopia thanks mate, thinking abt a spot that is protected but not much sun. Might give it a crack
@RealLifeFruitopia3 жыл бұрын
@@mangojones7443 Actually mangoes are sun whores, you want a spot for it in direct sun. First 2-3 years protect with shade, then let it have as much sun exposure as possible. For quicker results in cooler climates I let them cook in my greenhouse at 30C-35C all summer before going in ground, but must keep up the water at those temps.

@@RealLifeFruitopia thanks mate, jammed up with real estate, so not many places with full sun. But ur greenhouse trick worked a treat, got them growing thru to autumn and most survived pretty well. Great show.

Nice one Jorge, thanks for the heads up to do it now because I often miss the boat on feeding then use my wife’s grandmothers method to catch up. She would place a heap of dynamic lifter/rooster booster in a bin with water, stir and leave over night. The next day water it in like liquid fertiliser. She would keep topping up the bin afterward, stir and repeat for days until it was finished. Very quick results during the season if you miss getting in early.

I used that method for a decade, works well indeed.

make your owen compost with lawn klipping and miuer
@RealLifeFruitopia3 жыл бұрын
My compost isn't enough, I have 8 compost bins that feed my bananas and monthly lawn clippings for the trees. I choose to keep animal manures to a minimum since one doesn't know if the source contains any infection.

That's a good way to fertilise! Thanks for the tip. I've planted my first few fruit trees last month (all bare root) and the sugar n spice nectaplum is starting to flower now. Would this be the best time to start feeding it? I'm also in Melbourne, and wow was it windy on Thursday!
@RealLifeFruitopia3 жыл бұрын
Feeding time in Melbourne is late August/September and December for deciduous trees like your nectaplum. For evergreens, feed as above plus in March. It's been crazy windy since late May, I don't ever remember it being so consistent.

I shall be doing the same in morning, got all the poo laden straw from the chicken run in to compost pile today and spread a new bale out before the rain. On KZbin there a vid I saw a while ago about the guy that owns neutrog, short interesting story about the second son that didn’t inherit the family farm business etc and insight into their operation. I’m pretty impressed with all their products like the who flung dung Have a top weekend George 👍🏼

After losing a few Acerola over the years I would like to know if I'll get lucky! I currently have one in the greenhouse doing well, my aim is to have it fruiting in ground, so I'll be purchasing a few more as backups.

@@justkool112288 I have a young Achacha that has over wintered in the greenhouse, losing only a couple of leaves. I plan to grow it in ground in future. I recently ordered a few more Achacha backups which I'll protect until maturity.

Hey mate have you ever watched Arizona fruit trees channel? Jay baringer is amazing probably the best grower on the planet. His methods are amazing but he mulches heavily always just noticed you haven't in this video but do in others.
@RealLifeFruitopia3 жыл бұрын
I mulch around my trees only, not over the lawns. The reason his garden is so successful is due to truck loads of mulch and overhead canopies protecting his under story trees from 6 months of 100F+. I have only 2 months of 90F-100F, the rest of the year being mild temperate. Ofcourse I'm envious!
