Allow me to clarify the difference for you. As you stated; you work in private / corporate security. So most likely you work around people who have money and common sense. They have something to lose, if things get out of hand. They risk a lawsuit, fines, penalties, their reputation being defamed. Which all affects their money. Its different for the field of work that Darien Long is in. These kids and young adults are low income, and the results of single parent households. Raised by single mothers. The majority of them, never had a father in their households, to be the blueprint for what a man Is supposed to be. So when they come across an authoritative man, like Darien long; it's unfamiliar territory for these kids, and young adults. They tend also, to not take the cops seriously; due to the fact that most of these kids (and adults with childish mentalities) have spent the majority of their formative years, gaming the legal system. Darien Long can not be as forceful, as he would prefer to be. Because it would open him up the litigation, from the exact people who forced the issue. As much as we viewers, would like to see it, for its dramatic and comedic content; we are not on the front lines with Darien, to deal with the legal consequences of his actions. And when street thugs, understand that there's a line that law enforcement (and its representatives) can not cross; it leaves the street hustlers to get emboldened.

***** Although I understand the jist of what you're saying. One has to remember that Darien Long is not a law enforcement officer. He's a security officer. Which actually means that he didn't have the same guidelines or restrictions, as a law enforcement officer. That's why the video beat Fred, Terry, and most of the people that he used a Criminal Trespass against. Not only that; but Long did one better, by posting it for public consumption on KZbin. "The Court of Public Opinion." A lot of Darien's opponents, had their legal name "put on blast". Police Officers are trained in the use of lethal force, when absolutely necessary, to ensure security. But the caveat of that, is that a police officer, has to account for EVERY BULLET that's fired. And law enforcement officers are subject to C. C. R. Bs being filed by civilians. I should know. I keep a stack of them. Darien Long didn't to have the figurative "command presence"; because he went above and beyond, with the irrefutable GO PRO camera. He just allowed the footage, to convict his adversaries. That's why for all of the Smith brothers' bluster; Darien outlasted them. Most of the other security guards, that I come across, who talk about command presence, don't utilize those GO PRO tools; so they have to play by the book, because its their word against the suspect. And suspects spend the majority of their formative years, learning how to be convincing and "gaming the system". So at the time that Darien was filming these exploits; he was ahead of the game at that time. And listening to Long speak; he made sure that he was well versed in the laws, statutes of GA, before he made any moves. And speaking, as a man who has been in courts MANY times; its much easier to be versed in the law, and let the court do the heavy lifting for you. That's why I keep surveillance cameras, with crisp audio, at both of my residences. Remember for all of the thugs and hooligans, who made threats, and tried to get Darien out of that mall; it was actually when the owner of the mall by not paying Darien; which finally forced Darien to move on. Darien could have chosen to have much more of a command presence. But he had the wisdom, to not over do his power base. He used the legal system to flex for him.

I look at the modern black community and I ask myself: where are the modern day Martin Luther king Jrs, the modern Ralph Abernathys, the modern Fred Shuttlesworths?
