Connections:
-Starting with the small, both originated from animated movies released in the same year of 2010.
-In their worlds, both were infamously known as notorious supervillains with high levels of intelligence and expertise in villainy. Their lairs are located in the city they live in, which is TOTALLY NOT SUSPICIOUS.
-Their paths of evil were a result of neglect and ridicule (Gru’s mother neglected him and he was bullied by other kids, even becoming traumatized when he attempted to ask a girl on a date/Megamind was a neglected outcast due to his destructive tendencies). They were taught by other criminals (As a child, Gru was mentored by the leader of the vicious 6-Wild Knuckles/Megamind grew up in a prison, where he was educated by inmates. He was also a student of Machiavillain-the world’s greatest villain).
-Both admired and defeated a group of villains (Gru idolized the Vicious 6/In the sequel, Megamind is a former member of the Doom Syndicate).
-Both had help in their evil schemes, including an army of minions whose sole purpose is to serve (The Minions/Brainbots) and a personal assistant (Dr. Nefario/Minion or “Ol’ Chum”). The Minions, Dr. Nefario and “Ol’ Chum” would assist in culinary production (Dr. Nefario and the Minions created jelly for Mr. Gru's Old Fashioned Jelly/”Ol’ Chum” opened a donut shop).
-Both former villains’ hearts were changed after connecting with female characters (Margo, Edith, and Agnes/Roxanne Ritchi). Because of this reform of humanity, both would regret accomplishing their dream goals (Gru flew to space and stole the Moon but missed the girls’ ballet recital/Megamind “kills” Metro Man and took over Metro City but grew bored from the lack of an arch-nemesis and Roxanne abandons him). Both would abandon their villain careers and take up heroic occupations (Gru became an agent of the AVL/Megamind became the new defender of Metro City).
-Both fought and defeated younger, prideful villains who wore orange and white, were at first friendly to them, and kidnapped the aforementioned female characters (Vector/Tighten).
-Both their enemies have a fish theme (Vector had guns that fired piranhas and squids/The Go Fish Gang wore fish costumes and rode a fish tank). Said villains own sharks.
-Both defeated a purple-clad, disco-themed villains who like to dance (Beltazar Brat/Psycho Delic)
-Both have to do with a plan that involves the Moon (Gru wanted to steal the Moon and hold it for ransom/the Doom Syndicate were going to launch a portion of Metro City into the Moon).
-Both went on dates while hiding their identity (Gru dated Shannon while wearing a wig to hide his bald head/Megamind dated Roxanne while disguised as Bernard).
-They have similar available arsenal: Both of them have a freeze ray (Megamind’s came from the comics), both have their own custom-made vehicles (Grumobile and an Airship/Hoverbike and an Invisible Car), both have a weapon that shrinks their targets (The SR-6 Shrink Ray shrinks whatever it shoots/The De-Gun “dehydrates” a target into a small cube).
-Actor Will Ferrell plays a role in both characters’ franchises (He voice-acts Maxime Le Mal in Despicable Me 4/He is the original voice actor for Megamind).
