Artifacts that increase hp or mana work proportionaly, meaning, after the increase you will have the same percentage of your hp/mana pool as you had before. So if he uses mana potion while he has 2 pendants of energy, he will only recharge 150 mana of his total ~600 mana pool, but if he drops pendants and uses potion to restore 150 out of 300 mana pool (50%), when he picks up pendants that 150 mana will become 300 (50% of 600). Profit!

Pendant adds max mana to the hero; but your mana percentage will always stay at the same level. The reason he places them down is so that his mana restore items (which also restore a fixed amount of mana) will restore more percent mana than if he were to have the pendants equipped; for example, if a hero were to use an item that restored 50 mana when they had 100 mana, they would gain 50% of their max mana pool, however were that hero to use the item when they had 200 mana instead, it would only restore 25% of their mana. TLDR: He drops them because it restores more percent mana when he doesn't have them equipped :P

HERE FOR YOU from another discussion >>>>> the fucking point is ... that maybe in past ... bnet ladder was played by many people, the rts i mean, but over the last 10 years or so ... most player bought wc3 tft cause of custom game. here at home we have had a very good computer and one bad laptop, this laptop was not good enough for playing but good for poker. so NOW we bought another one (not so good) but we did we bought for WC3 TFT, and now ? watch movies with that thing ? and all these players ordered this game to play legion or dota or whatever ... AND NOW .-.. LISTEN TO THE FUCKING players in followgrubby stream ... THEY LIKE THE PATCH ... aha, ya they are playing ladder ... but not so much anymore, few hours ago ladder had 200 running games, thats nothing !! the normal ladder game was dead when blizzard had to decide that they cannot use match making system in the old way, you dont meet in ladder your skill opponents, you meet everyone ... to create games faster than 30min - 1hour, that means you get untrainend lvl 43 and so on ... you loose 30 - 40 and still getting 41 for these skilled guys its a drama too ... cause you get bad timing skills against good players when this wc movie came ... i thought they will relive ... but that was a dream
