My first husband's mate built the cars for Mad Max and my second husband bought an old xb coupe, painted it black and rebuilt the motor to the max. Cops used to pull me over just to have a look. I miss the beast.

Driving a car without a an air filter in a country consisting mainly of deserts... What can go wrong? Also, the rear spoiler isn't functional, because the roof spoiler blows all air away, causing the rear spoiler to been in area of vacuum. Whoever designed the car, had no idea about aerodynamics.

As for the movie car, the blower was mounted and elevated over a standard 4BBL carb. The "spin" was made possible by an electric motor. In the video, the yellow bucket inside the engine bay is hiding the motor. The case of the blower was hollow.

@neurosisfan15 жыл бұрын
100% right. A blower is on all the the time. It can't be disengaged, then "activated" when you want it. After all, the belt that runs it is the belt that runs the whole engine, right? They did that for effect in the movie. It kind of works, because of the cool sound they use for the blower. What a fuckin tough looking car, though, right?

@MegaAngel85 They built 2. One was a promotions car, the other is the one you see in the movie. There's always persistent rumours that a third was built, and the closest I've heard to verifying it was a replica builder in Perth named Gordon Hayes. Allegedly a third was to be built, were about halfway through it, and they changed their mind. He did a stunningly accurate replica that sits in a museum

I believe you are thinking of the stuntman whom tragically was killed after a motorcycle jump. You can see the front wheel of his bike hitting his head as he comes down. He broke his neck. The director decided to leave it in the film to honour his memory. But I too am very impressed by the sheer amount of "death and destruction" they managed to pull off in this film. All in the days before CGI...

GrubcoMedia: Personally, I thought the music choice was PERFECT. This video is about the car itself not the movie 'tho I have to admit hearing that engine rev a few more times would'nt hurt *swoons*. I for one would love to be behind the wheel of a genuine 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe listening to this. ^_^
@ultimatemadmaxcar15 жыл бұрын
No electric motor was used to spin the belt. I've talked with Murray Smith who built the car for the movie. They simply added a longer belt over the idler pulley that was mounted to the swingarm when they needed it "ON". Whne you see the shot where it appears to be getting 'switched on' it's nothing more than the car being started. There was also NO 90 degree elbow on the dizzy. Not sure where you got your info from

As for the Max car or any other attempt at a "switchable" supercharger, the mileage isnt even relevant. What prevents it from working as shown is the lack of a bypass. Cant get air into the engine if the inlet is blocked by stationary s/c rotors. You need a bypass path with a movable vane or some other air door or some method of allowing the rotors to spin freely inside the case when the s/c is not engaged. That method, however, would create a ridiculous lag and turtle slow acceleration.

Yeah, ive heard this too. The bucket at the very start (when max first sees the v8 interceptor) is to cover up the electric motor! also technically the car is a pursuit special, although i dont think that really makes any difference! I would love to hear the original sound of that car, i thought the side pipes were real...just they dubbed sound over the top ?
