My father looked exactly, and I mean exactly, like Walter Matthau, with the same dialect from New Jersey, and the same mannerisms and behavioral traits. I feel so fortunate to have these movies available to watch anytime. It’s like I can visit with him whenever I want.

I loved how in this sequel, the focus seems to be more centered on "Max Goldman", and his chance of meeting up with someone who will love him for who he is and make him feel special. No one could ever play this part better than the great Walter Matthau.

In a way Max was also saying that women don't love men for who they are instead of what they have anymore so there's no point in trying to put yourself out there if all your gonna get is hurt. That's how it is in the world we live in today. But you're right, this movie is f**king hilarious. 😆😆😆

I love the Grumpy Old Men movies. The 2 Grumpy Old Men movies have a certain, lovely, warm charm to them. For example, I love how the scenery of the state of Minnesota is practically a co-star. In Grumpy Old Men we get to see how nice Minnesota looks with all that snow and ice. And in Grumpier Old Men we get to see what it looks like underneath all that snow and ice. Just beautiful. The small hometown feel also really adds to the charm. Makes one want to move there to live and hopefully have Max, John, Pop, and Ariel (and all the others) as neighbors.

I've always liked this scene. Old Max Goldman's wife definitely loved him (the rhubarb pie proved what she was willing to go through just to see him happy, even though she was under no obligation to do anything of the sort). That's going above & beyond. That's love.

Mirrors what John said in the first film to Max; if he ended up with May, he never would have had Amy, who was a good woman, thus having no good memories like this. John basically saved Max from having a long, loveless marriage like he did (before Ariel). Come Fly The Teeth Of The Wind. Share My Wings.

One of my favorite scenes in the movie and perfectly sums up what love is and why it’s so hard to move on from it. My wife is very similar. She sacrifices so much for me. Honest to god if she died before me I’d never be able to move on. I could see myself having this same conversation with my son if he tried to tell me I should date again. The subtext of the conversation being “You honestly think the reason I don’t look is because I’m waiting for another one to come into my life. I had love.” Granted he did try to go for Ariel previously but he came to terms with it just not being love but the sentiment is more or less the same. I already had someone I loved and I don’t really care if I find another.

He thought of the rhubarb pie because he knows that at his age, the odds of finding another woman that'll love him like that are slim to none. To be open to dating is to have hope, and to hold onto hope is to suffer. So we eat our macaroni and cheese, and watch our programs.
