You can find the HSP on the SERVO Board and it's called APK R1525 (ArbeitsPunkt Kopfservo - workingpoint headservo) nearby APB (ArbeitsPunkt Bandservo means tape speed) R1577. Look at the service manual for Abgleich Servo 27502-054.01 All the switches from the drive are connected to the Motoranschluß board on the underside. Clean all contacts and bend it with a micro screwdriver and searching for cracks on the connectors.

These 2x4 mashines are notorious for corrotion on the micro switch for the servo position. And also the white plastic can crack, and the thooth are gone in a wrong possion. If your micro switches for loading and unloading are wrong, it could cause the processor to act strange, and therefor the strange behavour when you have it on or off. It seems that your DTF are in a outer limit since your play, stop/still and high speed isnt good. Perhaps someone has found the bloody irish fantom tweeker, and have done some adjustment on the tape guard so the tape possion are wrong to the videoheads, and the pizo on the heads are out on the max limit. And as you state back tension shal be correct. This type of mashines should do this like a Phillips.

The head guides don't look to have been fiddled with. And they certainly never should be on this model.

Yes, the later Philips ones were slightly better.

A lot of those symptoms look like loose/bad connections. Perhaps some bad caps too.

If you switch it off and it doesn't turn off, wait a bit. It will timeout after around 15 seconds and then go into standby. Had that problem intermittently on more than one of my machines. But I don't remember it to keep playing when turned off. And if it behaves differently, well, then it has a different fault than mine. I also have one machine that consistently doesn't turn on when you turn it on first. If you turn it off and on again, it will work. Sometimes, if you leave it running for a while and switch it off for just a few minutes, it will turn on first try, but you almost always have to turn it on, off, on.

On my machine magnet on capstan's tachometer is cracked, so I have no signal from capstan anymore.

A friend had one of these and asked me to look at it. On opening I found some of the plastic gears had broken. Over time the plastic had deteriorated and cracked. Overall the design appeared to be poor compared to the Japanese machines. It went to the tip.

Do you have friends in Sweden? Because the last tape you used had swedish programs in it! I really don't know what it was in the first side (with the subtitles) but the show on the other side must have been a clip of the crime drama "Hassel" featuring the fictional police officer Roland Hassel. The Hassel show was very popular when it ran on swedish TV in the 80:s and 90:s. Lars-Eric Berenette made the role of Roland Hassel. WOW!😀

Nice progress on the Grundig, I just scored 8 BetacamSP decks that were stored in damp building for almost 20 years so of course they all have problems but at least I have nice Sony gear to play around with :D
