In '88 the Bee Gees announced that Andy would join the band but he died before he could fulfill his role
@beeharbour3 жыл бұрын
No they didn't but it's commonly stated otherwise. Andy was never going to be in the Bee Gees if only because Robin and Maurice would have to have been idiots to have allowed it. The battles about lead vocals was a gigantic issue from day 1. Andy was going to sing some leads as well I would imagine. Why would the twins want mini-Barry to join when they were already unhappy with a number of things that went on in the band that would be made worse by Andy' presence and Barry's frequent statement that he liked Andy better than his other two brothers. I don't suppose there is any reason to buy this tale since I'm sure I have nothing much to offer but other 3rd parties who may not have been any more reliable than the ones you have access to. It makes perfect sense though. In any case even Barry said Andy needed to be clean before the matter would even consider joining the band. At least in theory he was still moving along with a new solo album. It is a bit odd to me that he was with Robin to pretend to write songs when you'd have expected he would more likely been with Barry. They had such success with Andy's first album that would seem logical. As well, Barry didn't really trust Robin to do a blessed thing right and he was probably correct in the sense that I'd guess Robin was not as stern a taskmaster as Barry would have been. Robin had not been clean long himself. It might not have been the best idea to send a very active addict to live with an ex-addict still very much in a precarious spot himself.

While I found I could sympathize deeply with Barry and find solace with his story - as I buried both my brothers at 44 and 63 and both my parents are gone - at least Barry has a lovely wife and five kids and grandkids and more money than he can ever spend in many lifetimes. He is very blessed. I am too as I have a wonderful husband, two grown boys and an awesome grandson. Most will have tragic lives, if they should live long enough. BTW, he still has a sister, right? So he has a sibling left. Has he made peace with her? At 74 he is probably also mourning his past fantastic career. What a life he must have lived!

There are lots of errors in this report starting with failing to mention that Robin learned arson from his big brother Barry and it was Barry's car theft charge that got the family the invitation to leave England and to do so promptly. I don't say that to criticize Barry at all; the family saw a lot of very rough times. While in Australia Barry skipped an entire year of school without Ma and Pa Gibb even noticing; I kind of admire him for that.
@giannafrancis51763 жыл бұрын
In an interview I saw Robin described how their dad was away much of the time photographing families that lived in remote areas of Australia. He also told about how their mom wasn’t feeling well at that time, having to spend a lot of time resting in bed. With financial struggles and living away from extended family, those years must have been really difficult. For their parents anyway - the kids had each other and seemed to thrive for the most part.

I think the rags to riches thing is very enticing but mainly their humility and honesty about how things were is very enlightening. Robin is hard to read, can be very vulnerable and seemingly kind and also cutting and downright rude in some videos I have seen. Barry was the alpha and probably pushed his weight around a lot. Maurice seems to be the most fun of the three, does not say a lot but can be hilarious. So many years later people are just as fascinated now as back then. I wish they were all here.

@@reneehicks4629 I agree with you. Preference is a matter of opinion rather than fact but Barry’s range was greater, from baritone through to falsetto and I find Robin’s extreme vibrato irritating. Interestingly it was Robin that pushed Barry to use his falsetto feeling that it increased record sales. Barry has since said he felt it was overused.

Andy Gibb death symptoms could be from prescription drugs also.

It was a viral infection but his heart was weakened by PREVIOUS drug abuse. There were no drugs or alcohol in his system when he died.

According to Robin, with whom he was living at the time, Andy was falling down drunk everyday. He had knocked out his front teeth in that manner. Both Barry and Maurice suffered some sense of guilt because their last conversations with Andy had turned somewhat harsh owing to his drunkenness on the phone.

Morris? Isn't Maurice's name pronounced "Mo-reece", which is why they called him "Mo"?

why don't they ever mention about there sister?
@caroletta4513 жыл бұрын
That's what I have always wondered? Can't feel sorry for Barry losing on of his siblings when it sound like he has a sister he is not even acknowledging. These guys lived a charmed life and Barry still does.

Or Barrys 1st wife. She's hardly ever acknowledged.

They had some ruff times and did things that boys do, but I wouldn't call their life tragic.

If they would have gotten treatment for drug and alcohol abuse early, they would'nt have died so young.

Luis Sanchez, Check your facts, don't this poorly narrative be your only source. Yes, Andy was very young. Any of the brothers passing was too soon.

@@JL-iu7fk - Both Robin and Maurice had a congenital gastrointestinal defect that led to their deaths. Robin went to the hospital with pain and was sent home. When the specialist was told what happened to his twin he was called back immediately and had surgery for the same thing that killed Maurice. He later developed cancer.
