I have to admit, I kinda like the amplified audio of the Walker Razor. I can hear a rattle snake crawling through the grass... literally... have done it. I get your complaint that when your out in the field it doesn't sound real, and if a rock rolls off trail it sounds really loud. The question is: can I hear the enemy walking toward me, as I am walking toward them in the field better with or without the Walker Razor? Need to test that. CARRY ON!!!

Walker razors don't have directional sound. It's amplified but that's it. Great for the range cuz that's what they are designed for but would never recommend using them over my natural hearing if I was trying to stay aware of my surroundings

So do Peltors have directional audio? With a .223 who cares... just run without hearing protection (consult your doctor), but if packing something bigger.. yikes... need ear protection. There should be a top helmet mounted 360 degree mic with brains and amplification so you can hear a rattle snake crawling through the sage brush 50 yards away, AND tell what direction, AND if a big noise goes off right next to you, you are not deaf afterwards...? What is that gear?
@SourpatchAirsoft
@SourpatchAirsoft Ай бұрын
@@lieutenantcolonelnicholson9228 yes peltors do have directional sound. I think the cheapest you can go and still get directional sound is Howard light sport impacts if you're interested but the quality isn't as good as peltors but is a fraction of the price

Nice video. We agree the Baofeng radio is AWESOME! The only disadvantage to the Baofeng to something like a Yaesu FT-60 is signal saturation. What that means, as I understand it (Extra-HAM) is that if there are a whole bunch of people transmitting on or near the same frequency that your operating on with the Baofeng it can get overloaded and fail... so I hear, not proven by me. What is proven by me is the Baofeng is awesome and can take a beating, hold a charge, has good range. I usually roll with the Walker Razor head set bolted on my Hard Head Veteran bullet resistant helmet. Ya, not comfortable at all ear phones. Feels like wires jamming into my head as well. But PELTOR! Dude what are they... didn't look $300 guess. May dump hearing protection 223 isn't that loud. CARRY ON!!!

I'm a big fan of "bone conduction" headsets for being able to hear all ambient noise as expected while still hearing comms clearly. Often wearing bone conduction+ in-ear or over the ear (or all three) at the same time. The ham radio connector is called a k1, so googling k1 and bone conduction for some ideas.

If/When the SHTF no one is going to give a crap about FRS/GMRS and Ham frequency use without a permission slip from the FCCs. That being said, keep in mind most of these cheap radios and even the expensive ones operate on GMRS and they are line of sight. Depending on the terrain one will TX/RX anywhere between 1/8th mile to as much as 12-15 miles with perfect line of sight. 2w to 10w does not necessarily mean one can TX/RX farther. Privacy tones are not private....all those tones do is block out the people listening to you and uR pals while they laugh and sneak up behind you. TDradio H3s have a scramble mode which inverts the TX/RX, but can be easily defeated. Digital with encryption is probably the best way to go, but the bottom line is the TX/RX distance of any of these radios is very limited unless one is bouncing off a compatible repeater somewhere, but even those are not necessarily abundant in all areas. Once one recognizes all this, then one can consider better options.

thanks for this 100% guide. I always asked myself about the headsets until I got one and I wore to the range for few hours then I understood no matter how comfortable they are, they are gonna get hot and sweat and all the pressure around your skull is going to piss you off lol. Like the hand mic idea I am getting one for my rig. thanks again!

My current budget setup is the defense distributors waterproof ptt that has a nato plug on one end and either the standard Kenwood or baofeng uv9r connector. I was using neckband sordins like you but also found on Texas summer I’m not wearing them longer than a couple of hours at the range. So I snagged a used tci earpice/mic that has a nato plug. Way more comfortable and just as clear just in my non dominant ear. I agree natural hearing in the woods is paramount. I could run sordins over it if needed I suppose or put a surefire defender earbud with the valve open to take the edge off. I already shoot mostly suppressed so I’m already gtg but mainly my buddies don’t have cans yet. Personally I think in ear electronic comms is the future such as the invisio or silynx in ear. Obviously though for “real world” like you showed a quality shoulder mic does 90% of everything.

For your HHV hot-as-shit helmet, you should get the micro-lattice pads. They come with a sweatband, and it's quite comfortable especially if you've got a bit of a breeze to give you some airflow through the helmet.
