I don't mind hauls, affiliate links or anything like that because they've been around a long time, I just hate that there's nothing else. Back in the day there were turiorials, GRWMs, and videos with other stuff in them. In the pursuit of short form success, the meat of the videos is gone (shout out to HLP).

Hey Tina! I never got on TikTok or watched people that went along with the hype. I realized that most people that I follow on IG or subscribed to in KZbin just do their own thing. I always liked your channel because you always offered great insight to different topics, and when it came to products, you only recommended products that you believe were worth it. Plus, I like the fact that you do this for fun and not for the money. We as your subscribers know that you can just decide not to do this anymore and you’ll be fine. There is a freedom and honesty that comes with that. Thanks for sharing!

I feel like the beauty community has always been about hyper consumerism. All the undisclosed sponsorships, brand trips and rave reviews. I feel like what happened on KZbin is just repeating on Tik Tok. KZbin did start to get better when smaller creators started making anti-hauls and shop my stash content. I agree that Tik Tok definitely exacerbated the issue. Now that Tik Tok is about to get banned, the cycle will just start over again elsewhere

I miss the OG youtube grwm and haul videos honestly. I'm on tik tok but mainly for books honestly lol I still want to solely be on youtube if I'm being honest because it's just the best in my opinion. I just love the OG youtube days. It's what brought me back to my love of makeup

32:28 I agree . It’s very overwhelming and over stimulating. Like ads starting out with “I feel sorry for all those who purchased this “insert item” it is now on TikTok for $10 off . Although sometimes worth it; it’s overwhelming when everyone is starting their videos like that . Second , even those non sponsored videos are almost swindle into giving good reviews . For example, if I give my honest review on a item from purchasing the seller will reach out sometimes combative, sometimes helpful and than coerce you to change your review even if they did not solve the problem. Although sometimes its user error there are Sometimes the product just sucked .

I literally had a seeker reach out to my cell phone from different numbers to get me to change the review offering even $20 on a $200 purchase . They even care about the item being returned or functioning they just wanted me to change my review. This all let me know that those promoting the product are lying

I love your chatty GRWM because it’s a great way to find out about new topics or getting your take on topics. It feels like listening to a discussion or something with more substance than just a sales pitch which is what a lot of beauty videos have turned to. I get it, everyone is trying to make a living but I personally just don’t want to consume that content anymore because it feels like tuning in to the QVC channel when I have no need to buy anything. I have more makeup than I know what to do with and since trying to shift my mindset to be a more conscious consumer, it doesn’t make sense to tune in for content that is pretty much just an ad. Why make it harder for myself? That’s why I pretty much avoid it all 😅

I, too, blame TikTok. I don’t understand how it quickly became like this QVC. Everything from the girlies on TikTok always try to sale something. Brands then try to dupe whatever is on trend for that moment. And it’s a lot. That’s why brands that were very niche brands, like Coloured Raine, didn’t last despite their products performance great. Not to mention, too many people are also going after whatever is popular look wise. I’m all nude out. I don’t need to see anything nude lipstick

There's a lack of fun new makeup looks with the new creators. I feel like they do the same minimal look over and over again. The same looking lip combos. The same eye combos that are devoid of color because they don't know how to do eyeshadow. The same overuse of blush applying it all over the face when it doesn't make sense.

What I truly don't like about TikTok beauty content, and throw in KZbin Shorts in there too... Is the over exaggerated click baity reactions and face pulls and the lack of nuance or follow up on product try ons. Yes it exists in long form content as well, but it's amplified in TikTok and the way quick big reactions get the most engagement. It's honestly exhausting when everything is OMG YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PRODUCT IT LITERALLY IS A MIRACLE ... OR.. THIS IS THE WORST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER TRIED EVERYONE IS LYING IT'S TRASH... insert face pull, big O face gasp and misuse of AAVE

Short-form content is exhausting. It just sucks out my energy and I feel like a dried up husk of a person after watching multiple shorts after another. I need long-form content where I can digest and think about what I'm watching, and pay attention for at least 10 minutes. Whenever I see my 4yo niece scroll on yt shorts or my nephew watch yt constantly I get so pissed off, because you know it's just rotting their brains. The bright colours, music, the AI generated stuff etc are all crap meant to suck them in.

I missed your rants ❤ but yes I'm disenchanted with SM in general. I stick with my tried and true content creators (why I missed you so much) I like the Merit skin products they're great for my dry/normal skin. Oh just a mention your skin type *can* change after pregnancy. After my first I didn't have much change but after my second my skin actually balanced itself out. Like I've never had oily skin but all of a sudden I can create oils 😅 not too bad though but just wanted to let you know in case you wanna tell us off for not letting you know ❤

I really really hate the tricks as well. I can’t stand being on tik tok for more than 2 minutes at a time, EVERYTHING is an ad. So I stick to the YT ppl who I know and trust already. I also hate how tik tok trends have given people are AREN’T creative, smart, funny etc a platform to be successful based on others’ ideas.

I don’t know if I would blame Tik Tok per se. As an avid reader of history, I think this is well within human behavior. “If you build it they will come.” As someone who knows they would not partake in attending gladiator games back in Ancient Rome, I don’t mess with Tik Tok or the new fanged Twitter. I like my human vices in lower doses. I feel sad for small businesses that get caught up in the Tik Tok type of grind And hope the good ones can maintain their sanity as they try to f8nd good core consumer audiences.

People have been pushing product for forever. I haven't indulged in makeup in almost ten years if not ten years already. It's overwhelming. If I consume fashion or beauty content, it's the old school approach where people are showing how rather than selling something. I like seeing what people wore over the week as opposed to a haul. I don't consume beauty content anymore, but if I do I like what you did here where you talk about something else throughout the process lol. That way I can play it in the background.

I don't use TikTok because it really is so overwhelming. And I'll forever be a KZbin lover, and I'm on Insta, which I like for stories. I like that KZbin is easy to navigate and it has a history section so if I want to go back and rewatch something. That makes me irritated about reels/tiktoks. Lol.

I'm not on tiktok I am not interested. I am staying away saving my braincells and attention span. I recommend reading the book by Johann Hari called Stolen Focus on the subject. Tiktok is so harmful esp to kids. I find when I am on KZbin watching long form content I am more calm and dont have the compulsion to scroll being impatient.
